The One Who Changed My World – (Chapter: 1)
“Nothing,” he replied casually. “How’d you do on that history test?”
“I’m not sure,” she replied honestly. “I studied a lot, but it was pretty hard.”
“Yeah,” Aiden answered, not really listening to the answer. “Oh, how rude of me,” he said in an awkwardly exaggerated manner. “Spencer this is my friend Ashley, Ashley this is Spencer.”
She looked at me for the first time in the interaction and smiled genuinely at me. This is when I noticed my palms were sweating. They were sweating and clammy and I realized I didn’t know if I could speak. Fortunately, she still had that ability. Unfortunately, she also stuck out her hand to shake mine politely.
“Nice to meet you Ashley,” she said. “I think I’ve seen you around.”
“Uhhh, thanks. I mean, you too. Nice to meet you too, I mean,” I barely managed to stutter out as I reached out to accept her hand. She chuckled a little bit as we locked our hands and I realized how soft and tender her hand was. But I pulled away quickly so she might not feel how clammy mine was. She looked at me strangely, oh God, now she thinks I’m rude. She turned her attention back to Aiden.
“Okay, so I’m going to go meet back up with my friends,” she said. “See you in class Aiden.” She turned her attention to me quickly, “Nice to meet you Ashley.” Of course I didn’t respond and she walked away, me staring at her yet again.
“Wow,” Aiden said, drawing my attention back to the real word. “Ashley Davies dumbstruck by a girl. Never thought I’d see the day.” He was right. I was always really confident with girls, especially straight ones because I knew I really had nothing to lose either way. But Spencer was different. I didn’t know why at the time; something about her made me feel alive and I was going to find out what that something was.
It’s been a week since we saw Spencer in the dining hall and I still haven’t seen her yet again. She’s driving me crazy and I barely even saw her. I’m on my way over to Aiden’s right now. Being the crazy best friend that I am, I actually agreed to go to his place when he got a super craving for mint chocolate chip ice cream. Call me crazy, but I’m a sucker for this delicious goodness.
