Thursdays – (Chapter: Tears and Apologies)
The blonde’s insides were burning. Wanting to keep the arguments to a minimum, she attempted to calm herself. In the back of her mind however, Spencer was making a mental note to hire a hit man when she got home. I wonder if they do payment plans?
“Manners? You want to talk to me about manners? How about inviting my ex-boyfriend to our lunch?”
“What’s the problem? You two were so great together.” Spencer couldn’t believe this.
“Great? Yeah Mom, we were great…until he CHEATED on me!”
“Spencer, Aaron has found the lord now. He has repented for his sins. Give the poor boy a chance, he’s such a nice man.”
At this point, Spencer was sure she could see the smoke coming out of her ears and nostrils. She felt like a bull ready to charge, and at the moment, all she could see was red.
“Forget it! There is no way I would even be friends with someone like him again!”
“Please honey…” Paula’s eyes were pleading and showed the concern of a caring mother. It made Spencer sick. The woman’s act was a mere façade and they both knew it. Paula was just trying to make sure that the girl in front of her became the daughter that she wants her to be. A daughter like that would be nice to introduce to the ladies at church. Regardless, she insisted on continuing
“Do it for me. Just for today. Give Aaron a fair chance, and if you two don’t hit it off, you can just forget this whole thing ever happened. Tomorrow you can go on about your regular life.”
Tomorrow. There was something about those words. Instantly pictures of a certain, captivating brunette flashed through Spencer’s mind. That wide grin and heartwarming laugh. She got flashes of them at the office, then the beach, and finally, her head was filled with ideas of what could possibly come tomorrow when she saw Ashley next. Spencer suddenly felt herself cool down and her insides stopped churning. Surprisingly she felt a lot better, and was finally able to be rational.
“Ok fine. But just today, and no more than an hour,” Spencer finally surrendered.
