There was a pause as if he was waiting for an answer, but that would require Spencer, with her mouth as open as a fish, to have a thought in her head at that moment.
“Because you have fucked with my head so much these past few years, it’s beyond repair. You have lifted me up and dropped me so many times I’ve lost count. You treat me like shit 99 percent of the time and everything I do, every action I take is to try and pry that 1 percent out of you that treats me like a man. You never loved me, Spencer, I know that and you know that!” He spat, stopping to take a breath, one of his hands still covering his head and the other suspended in the air.
Suddenly, it was as if somebody had sucker punched Patrick and knocked the wind right out of his body. He crouched down and leaned over as if he was about to be sick.
“God,” he panted with a soft sadness in his voice, “Do you know what the worst part is?”
He lifted his head up to meet Spencer’s tear ridden blue eyes with his own broken green ones.
“I can’t stop loving you.”
You could have heard a pin drop at that moment.
“Shit,” Patrick forced out a half sob, half laugh, “what kind of fucked up person am I? It’s not as if I enjoy being kicked around. I just…can’t keep myself from loving you. I see you, Spencer. I see all your perfections and all your flaws. I know the way you stutter when you get nervous and how you unconsciously tuck your hair behind your ear and bite your lip when you’re concentrating and I love every single bit of every tiny part of you.”
He inhaled, silently praying that the air in his lungs would give him the strength he needed.
“And that…is how I can see that you’re in love.”
Lo – what?
A blonde head shot up, speaking for the first time in what seemed like years. “Patrick, no, I just-”
“Spencer,” if it was possible his voice softened even more, “It’s okay. I mean, I knew this day would come and yes, I probably would have preferred it not to have been with my best friend’s girlfriend, but I have been preparing myself for this. Sort of bracing myself for the blow.”
A female voice flowed through the air, “I don’t know what to say.”
“You don’t have to say anything. You don’t owe me anything. We both knew what we had was temporary which is why I can’t be mad at you. You never led me on. I’ve always known where we stood. Just…be careful, okay? With Ashley, with Aiden, with everything. I can’t tell you what to do, but just, be careful because trust me, it’s easy to get a broken heart and incredibly difficult to fix.”
All Spencer could do was nod.
Taking one more breath and finally letting go of his forehead, checking his hand for blood, he reached back into the dresser and threw his last remaining items in the suitcase before pushing everything down and pulling the zipper all the way around.
He hoisted up the suitcase and began walking toward the door but not before grabbing a stuffed full duffel bag off of the floor. He twisted the knob and pulled the door open and just as he was stepping through the threshold, a voice stopped him.
“I’m sorry.”
A moment passed, and then two and then without turning around, Patrick replied with such brutal honesty Spencer wasn’t sure she could ever get up from that bed.
“No, you’re not. But thanks for saying it.”
And then he was gone and Spencer was left alone, once again wondering how the hell she got here.

awwww. poor patrick. come here boy, i’ll take care of you! hehehe. yayyy now all we need to do is get rid of aiden…which probably wont be easy…grr. but once again, my mind takes me back to the very first chapter, the prologue right? right well yeah, i’m going back there and my brains tellin me that spencers gonna lose ashley or something..and thats making me really really sad :-(. waaaah. lets just have it be a very spashley ending shall we? sounds goood! :-D! excellent update. most definitely.
allow me to rephrase…it wasnt meant to be a very spashley ending..it was supposed to be a spashley ever after ending haha. but thats what i get for trying to post comments while i’m also working. blah. i wish i could just post reviews on peoples stories for a living. that’d be effing sweet.
Great update…and so soon. So I feel bad for Patrick but I think it’s for the best. Now he can spend some time getting over her. My main concern now is how is Ashley going to react? Will she feel too pressured to make a choice between Spencer and Aiden? Will she freak out because of it? I just really wonder what Ashley’s reaction will be. I guess it depends on how much she really loves Aiden. Anyway, I can’t wait until your next update.
Holy Cow. Poor Patty. I feel sorry for him. But things sure have cleared up for Spashley. Which is a brutal thing to say, but honest. Loving it. PMS please. :]
