    Transformations – (Chapter: Chapter 2)

"Yesterday one of our bases in Katar was attacked. We are unsure at the moment by whom but there appears to be no survivors."
"In other news local school SAT scores have dropped as the drop out rate has risen."

Spencer walked through the front just as her mother gasped at the television. "You better not drop out young lady!" Is mom chastising me for something I wasn’t considering?

Spencer shrugged it off. "Mom I’m now the proud owner of a sweet ass car." She smiled at her moms small grimace then headed upstairs.

    Ring Ring.

"Hey Mads…No, No I’ll pick you up. Be right there."

Figures her friend would call the minute she got upstairs. Spencer stopped and looked around her room. She was happy when her brother Glen moved out because she inherited his room. Along her windowed wall she had a desk filled with all of her computer stuff she meddled with. Cables askew and powers supplies stacked up and her own computer was stuck amidst all her stuff. Yes, Spencer Carlin was tech savvy.

Spencer looked at herself in the mirror and ran her fingers through her hair as an after thought before she grabbed her keys and headed downstairs. She walked through the house finding her parents outside in the backyard even though the news continued to rattle on the T.V.

"Spencey,, where you going?" Her mother’s eyes were hidden under her huge flower pruning hat.

The girl stood hands in pockets staring at the giant hat. "I was heading over to pick up Mads and then we were gonna check out the beach."

"I want you home by 11 Spencer Carling." Her father emphasized by shaking his garden tools at her. She offered a small smile then walked to her car.

She opened the drivers seat and sat down, quickly closing the door after her so her parents couldn’t keep talking. Knowing she could go anywhere as long as she was back by 11 was exhilarating. She ran her hands over the steering wheel loving the liberating feeling that filled her. Deciding that if she just sat in her car for a second more her parents would think she was crazy; she turned the key and left her parents in a cloud of black smoke.
