Turn of a century
Oh well, she started it.
Everything was backward. Absolutely everything; Renee not wanting to attend a function, Charlie actually wanting to be around her friends, (although, the motives behind them were understandable, I guess). What was not understandable was Jessica’s behavior towards me at school.
She only gave me the vaguest of answers, which was definitely not like Jessica, no matter whom she was speaking to. No matter if she liked them or not she would never pass up an opportunity to blab about herself through and through. And in reality, it wouldn’t have bothered me so much if I didn’t know the motive.
Or if the motive wasn’t so insane.
“She’s still a bit green from the other day.” Angela whispered during History class. She bit back a smile.
Recognizing that Angela was actually using the metaphor green to say that Jessica was green with envy, I glanced over at the other row of desks where the subject sat, eyes locked on the chalkboard. She was probably passing notes under the desk.
“That’s insane.” I echoed my thoughts in a hushed tone.
Angela grinned this time.
Never risking getting caught chattering during class, Angela waited till the end of the hour to explain the rest to me.
“Only the fact that Mike wanted to see you again instead of her is enough to ail her.” I rolled my eyes to that.
“Too bad it will look unseemly for Jessica to ask him to have dinner with her family.” I muttered as we walked to our next class.
“Actually, she could be already jumping to that possibility.”
“Ha! I didn’t think Jess had it in her.”
“Oh, she seems pretty fond of this boy.” This time Angela imitated my eye roll.
“Hopefully, he’ll accept.”
In reality, the icy glares that my classmate and supposed friend had been throwing at me all week did not really bother me. Though, having Jess as an enemy would be sure to bring trouble for me later, I presumed, especially since she’d been whispering with Lauren Mallory lately.
“Oh well.”
Some things bothered me more than most.
He was still there; in my dreams at night, during the day, constantly. And I simply couldn’t think about Edward Cullen because he would never think of me in the same manner. Never, because he was all the things that I wasn’t: fascinating, gorgeous, supposedly bearing incredible strength and equally mysterious.
