Until I Saw Her – Part 2 – Through Spencer's Eyes
Spencer’s P.O.V.
Hi, my name’s Spencer Carlin. I’m twenty-four years old, and I’m from a small town in Ohio. I moved here to the big city of Los Angeles, against the advice of family and friends who said, “That place will eat you alive.” in hopes of making it as an actress.
My journey to stardom has been less than stellar to this point. My star is already fading before it’s even had the chance to rise. I’ve been on more auditions than I care to count. The truth is I’d like to forget most of it. Each one was a learning opportunity, one that I tried my best to better myself as an actress, and I’d say I am better now for having gone through each one, but I could do without the humiliation and rejection. I’m not giving up, I can’t, and I won’t. I have to prove to myself that I can do it, that if my family and friends could see how important this is to me, how determined I am, they’d never doubt me if only they could see it through my eyes.
That part sounds good, but at the same time, I have been humiliated and rejected numerous times. Every time that happens, I can’t help, but think of all the people who doubted me back home, and that always leads to me doubting myself. That’s normal right? Well, it’s as normal as I get. That’s when I start wondering if determination is enough. I don’t want to, but maybe I should just give up.
I have another audition today. Today’s going to be the day! It has to be. I really don’t want to throw in the towel, but as much as I hate to admit it, this place is eating me alive. I don’t know whether today will finally be the day I get my big break, or the day my spirit finally gets broken, either way today’s audition will go a long way in determining my future.
Spencer looks down at her watch.
Shit, I’m late!
She rushing out of her apartment, gets into her car, and speeds off to the audition. When she arrives at the Rec. Center, where the auditions are being held, she sees a huge line of people waiting to be called in to see the director. She doesn’t want to wait in line all day so she approaches the director’s assistant, and tries to convince them to move her farther up in the line, but her pleas fall on deaf ears, and she’s sent to the back of the line.
