When Night Falls – (Chapter: Chapter 3: The dead of things)
She says, taking a seat on her bed. I took a seat next to her.
Ashley: Thats nice. So when do you think youll be giving birth to my first niece or nephew?
I asked with a smirk and she slapped my arm lightly.
Kyla: Hey! watch yourself. I agreed to marry Aiden not have his babies.
she answered laughing. There was silence and I took the opportunity to tell her what was on my mind.
Ashley: Their getting closer you know.
I said bluntly and Kyla gave me a confused look.
Ashley: I was listening to Budapest radio a while ago and they said that the Facists had seized power and that Horthy had to ask a pro-Nazi Nylias party to form a new government.
I said with evident fear lacing my voice. She put her hand on my shoulder.
Kyla: You really gotta stop listening to that radio Ash. Its gonna drive you insane with worry ok. I thought mom took it away anways.
She said with a smile and i returned it weakly.
Ashley: I know and believe me the worry is driving me insane but I cant deal with not knowing whats going on. I keep getting the feeling that our days are numbered and everyday that passes is a memory we should hold on to with dear life because soon we wont have even that.
I said to her seriously and she frowned.
Kyla: Look Ashley you really have to stop worrying. Im sure eveything will be ok with time.
She said trying to comfort me but it wasnt working. I stood up from her bed.
Ashley: It seems Im the only one that Is worrying. Things arent going to be ok and the sooner the people in this town realize it, the sooner they have to save something of their life. You guys are all pretending like itll be fine when most likely its not. You say things will get better with time? we dont have time. Thats as clear as the sky is blue.
I said to her fuming. I sighed, the anger quickly seeping out of me. I went off on her when none of this was her fault.
Ashley: look Im sorry for going off on you like that. Its just this thing is real and no one is acknowledging that. People are trying to make it all seem fine and peachy keen when its not.
