Why Can’t We Be Together – (Chapter: I Thought We Would Last Forever)

It felt like forever since I had last seen her. She had left me alone by myself. It had been almost a year that we were together, then she left. She moved back to Ohio. It’s now been three years since we had talked to each, let alone seen each other. I missed her everyday and I can’t seem to get her out of my mind.

I go to the studio everyday and sing about how much I wish she was with me. No one I work with knows who I am singing about except Aiden. He’s my manager. He keeps it on the down low though. I don’t know if she has heard any of my music before, but if she has, i’m pretty sure she would know it’s about her. I miss her like crazy, but i need to move on.

I had been coming out of class when i found a little note taped to my locker. At first I thought it was Madison or one of her clowns taping "DYKE" on my locker. Suprisingly enough it was from Spencer. She never leaves notes, so it must be important. "Ash, meet me at the pier at six. Love Spencer." This can’t be good i thought. Well at least she put love, maybe she had a surprise.

I got to the pier a little late as usual and i saw Spencer sitting down in the sand wearing jeans and a tank top. She sat there almost looking sad. I walked over to her and sat next to her.

"So…What are we doing here?" I asked nervously. Her face just kept getting sadder. "Spence, are you okay?" I had to ask her.

"Ash, I kinda have some bad news…" One loose tear fell down Spencer face. I wiped it away and pulled her into my embrace.

"Spencer?" I pulled her face up to mine, "What’s going on, your scaring me." A few more tears fell from her face and she pulled back from me  a little.

"I have to move back to Ohio." My heart stopped. Ohio isn’t an hour or two away I would lose her. I couldn’t lose her.

"Spencer… I can’t lose you." My voice was getting scratchy from the tears that were starting to role down my face. She took my chin and pulled me into a fiery kiss. It was so passionate and i didn’t care who saw. What frightened me was that I knew this was one of my last kisses with her.

"You don’t have to." She whispered in my ear.

We held onto each other for a few minutes then I had to ask more. "Why?"

"My mom doesn’t want to wreck our family by working with Ben. And my dad agreed." I looked down and a few more tears rolled from my eyes. "You know i want things to be different. I don’t know how i can be away from you for more than a couple hours." She said holding me tight.

"Are you saying we can’t try to be together?" I asked harshly. I don’t know where my anger came from but i was just so frustrated. Then it came.

"Ashley, you know how hard long-distance relationships are." I couldn’t believe she was saying this. She didn’t even want to try. I pulled away from her and stood up.

"So that’s it? You don’t even want to try? You just want to forget me and move on?" I was bitter and trying not to cry too hard. She tryed to wipe the tears but i slapped her hand away.

    "It’s not like that, Ashley."

"Really thats what it feels like." I started to walk away but i just couldn’t bring myself to leave her.

"I love you, Ashley. But this isn’t going to work." I couldn’t turn to face her. I couldn’t believe her. This wasn’t the Spencer i knew. I walked to my car and sat there for a minute and cried. I drove home and knew that i probably wasn’t going to see her again.

     (To be continued)
