    Romantic dinners and unexpected shocks

    She wanted Madison back; not in the ‘friend’ capacity that they had been going through so far and certainly not as a ‘fuck-buddy’ which could be another potential outcome. To be her girlfriend, her protector, lover, and friend was all that she asked for; it was a lot but they had done it before and it worked out so well. Sure there were the occasional lover’s tiffs but that came with being in a relationship whether one liked it or not. There was no doubt in her mind that her fidelity to the Latina was strong, it always was strong, always would be.

    In order to get that love again, to have the head cheerleader in her arms, she would have to eliminate the enormous obstacle between them; to exterminate it with extreme prejudice.

    Her eyes rose and met with those of her brother’s. She could see herself in him and she was sure he could see himself in her. It was uncomfortable when she noticed their similarities, the intensity of their stares and the way that they spoke, the way they carried themselves. “What about Raw?”

    “We made a promise to Skinny Jim. We can’t back out of our promises.”

    The rest of the school day was spent fairly normally for the two love birds. They exchanged folded love notes between them behind the teacher’s back, snuck kisses in between classes, and acted ‘sickeningly cute’ according to Aiden.

    Lunch rolled around and the jokes abounded with Aiden, Chelsea, Clay, Sean and Boz. Spencer sat in Ashley’s lap while random students hollered their congratulations for their one month or yelled for an encore of their kiss from earlier. The comments were either appreciated or ignored (respectively) by the two but the boys appropriately stared whoever down until they scuttled away to their destination.

    It was fun and light hearted. Every now and then the star couple would share light kisses and poke fun at each other. Clay and Sean tried to get everyone into a discussion on the ‘awesomeness’ of B-rated 70s-80s cinema while Chelsea, Aiden, and Boz shot their attempts down with bad jokes and insults.

    Spencer had finally been drawn into the conversation as soon as they mentioned Invasion of the Body Snatchers which left Ashley to roll her eyes and survey the rest of the lunch crowd. Tables upon tables of teenagers engrossed in their own worlds ate, studied, or chatted away their hour and fifteen minutes of freedom. Not one of them even attempted to make a negative comment about their relationship; that in and of itself surprised the living hell out of her considering how homophobic the student population used to be.
