A Choice is Made Chapter 9

Bette’s morning routine had changed slightly, she is at the museum by 7am. She has a 9:30 meeting with Hilda, her therapist and wanted to get a few things done before that appointment. She also wanted to be back in time handle any issues so she could enjoy a relaxing lunch with Tina and Boo.

Hilda: Well, I don’t have to ask how the show went if I’m to believe the papers. I also came by to see the exhibit on Sunday, fabulous. Welcome to New York Ms. Porter, you have made your mark in the art world.

Bette: It was an excellent turnout and I’m elated that it has been so well received. Our weekend attendance far exceeded our projections.

Hilda: Our Mr. Musto thought you were all the rage. He was really thrown by your lack of power suit, seems he’d done some research on you my dear; not often our Mr. Musto misfires.

Bette: You know, I read some of those accounts of the evening as well, they were all favorable and some were even funny, especially Mr. Musto.

Hilda: So how was the day of the show, did that stress and tension return?

Bette: Not a chance. I have an amazing team here and a supportive board, so I wasn’t fighting against anyone or working around anyone, saves a lot of stress and energy. Kit and I arrived together, the press recognized her right off. She always down plays her career, but she has a lot of fans left.

Hilda; How was the family time?

Bette: Better than I could have hoped for. Kit planned a surprised celebration for after the show. We had a private room at Jay Z’s 40/40 club. First I was blown away by the room, it is amazingly well done. Then the party that followed will go down as legendary in our book. We went to see Avenue Q the night before the show.

Hilda: Wow, you’ve  had quite the weekend!

Bette: Oh, you won’t believe the rest of the weekend. I snuck out to the museum Saturday morning to check some final stats and to see the early crowd and guess who was in the crowd?

    Hilda: A celebrity sighting?

Bette: Well, she is to me. Tina and Angelica where in the gallery. Angelica spotted me first and shouted, “Momma, Momma”. I was frozen to the spot, Tina and I just stared at each other. I made my way over and Tina took her out of the stroller so I could hold her. I just couldn’t stopping hugging and kissing her. I’ve missed her so much. She’d grown so much since the last time I saw her. She even walked with me. Tina let her stay with me in the office while she finished viewing the exhibit.

    1. Date night? Presumptuous much, T? Your writing is really great, but your Tina upsets me. After how long she made Bette beg after Candace, it seems like she’s expecting to have Bette just give her a chance so easily, when she was so much more hurtful towards her. I hope they make it, but only for Bette and Angie’s sakes, not for Tina, who doesn’t deserve such a great partner

    2. I’m with jikes. It seems Tina is thinking Bette will cave and things can go back to the way she (Tina) wants it. Hope Bette hangs tough and helps Tina realize that the degree of pain she put Bette through can’t be undone by a smile and a “sorry”. Thanks for posting tonight – such an unexpected treat! PPS.

    3. Well, I liked the fact that they are talking honestly and civily. There is nothing to be gained by two people who still love each other artificially holding up barriers. Each of them “earn” there way back to each other by being honest with themselves and honest with each other and create new rules between them to move forward. You are telling your story very well Lwsho…I am really enjoying it.

    4. Great story. At least they are both open to the possibilty of working thing out. An as in real life it’s good to be careful to work through issues that have been allowed to destroy a realtionship. It’s good to see that being played out in this story. A day at a time.

    5. at least they are talking. Tina really hurt Bette, especiay when she had Josh in their house that was meant. But their need each other. just love yur story. PPVS

    6. I’m glad they’re starting to talk about what happened. It feels like Tina is talking the brunt of their breakup. It takes problems with both partners for things to get as bad as they did and I don’t think we’re seeing Bette’s role. I guess the fact that Bette up and left without communicating her thoughts and intentions with Tina is an indication of how withdrawn she was from the relationship which I think Tina sensed. She is being portrayed as having only good intentions by making her move but I think she had some selfish/revenge type motivations as well. Maybe through their continued discussions and their therapy sessions some of these things will come to light and she’ll start taking some of the responsibility for the demise of their relationship. Then they can really move forward in healing.

    7. Amazing Chapter!!! B&T talking is always good. I am a frim beleaver that it takes two to kill a marriage and two to fix it. I hope that B&T make in your story and Tina will move to N.Y., but she needs to give it time and alot off it. Thanks PPVS
