A crush, a meeting then love?? – Chapter 120
“I’m sorry.” Tina says with tears running freely.
“You have nothing to be sorry about baby. This is not your fault. You hear me?” Bette says.
“I wanted so much to give you a child, and I couldn’t do it.” Tina says, crying harder.
Bette turned Tina’s head and looking in her eyes. She raises her voice a little, but she’s not angry.
“Tina, listen to me. This is not your fault. Please listen to me. You had no control over this. I love you Tina, we’ll have other chances of children. Right now, let’s concentrate on getting you healthy. Okay?” Bette says.
The doctor enter with his chart in hand.
Bette feels Tina tense up a bit.
“It’s gonna be okay.” Bette whispers to Tina.
“Tina, Bette.” He says and stops at the bottom of the bed.
“Dr.” Bette says. “What does the results say?” She asks.
“I’m afraid that it is cancer. It’s ovarian cancer, that has developed from the epithelial cells, which is located in the tissue that covers the ovaries.” Dr. Evans says.
“Oh God.” Bette lets out. “So what now? What is the next step?” Bette asks.
“Well, chemo is the logical next step. That will shrink the tumour, so it will be easier to take out without damaging the ovary. I’ll make the call out to Cedars in LA and set you up.” Dr. Evans says.
“Thank you Doctor. What are the prognoses?” Bette asks and takes an extra hold of Tina.
“Well, at stage 1, which is what Tina has, the survival rate after 5 years are 90-95%, so it’s good. But I have to tell you, that it will be difficult. It’s going to be a hard and long journey towards recovery. It will be days you feel like giving up and days you feel in great shape, but you have to have focus and not give up. Once you give up, you’ve lost and the chance of surviving gets smaller. The body listens to you. If you tell it to give up, it will.” Dr. Evans says.
“I understand. I’m not going to give up.” Tina replies in a soft voice.
“Good. I’ll leave you to it. I’ll call Cedars, I’ll stop by later to tell you have it went.” Dr. Evans says.
“Thank you doctor.” Bette says and walks over to him and shakes his hand. “For everything.” She adds.
“You’re welcome.” He replies.
He leaves the room, Bette turns to Tina again and notice that she’s not crying anymore. She seems empty somehow Bette thinks. She starts to worry.
“Baby?” She asks. “Are you okay?” She adds.
Tina turns her head and looks into Bette’s eyes. Bette looks back, her eyes are blank.
“Baby, you’re scaring me, please talk to me.” Bette says and move her hand up to Tina’s face and strokes her cheek.
