A helping hand a push in the right direction—Ch. 35

While Bette and Eli went to change and Tina trailing behind a few minutes later it left the rest of their extended family to mingle. Peggy seemed to enjoy catching up with Tyler and Jane as they reacquainted themselves. At some point she called Melvin over to introduce the elder Porter to Tina’s new found family.

Peggy outstretched her hand to Melvin as he walked over. “Melvin I’d like to introduce you to Tyler and Jane Hadley, Eli’s grandparents.”

Melvin moved to shake Tyler and Jane’s hand with a welcoming smile which hid a bit of his confusion as to how exactly the Hadley’s were Eli’s grandparents. He knew the basics about Tina, his daughter’s life partner but he also knew that Tina’s family was out of the picture.

    “It’s a pleasure to meet you Tyler…Jane.”

Tyler smiled and shook Melvin’s hand. Some time ago Oliver had let it slip that Melvin didn’t entirely approve of Tina when she was a part of Bette’s life years ago and Tyler was silently wondering if that was still the case. Tina may not be his biological daughter but he would still decimate anyone who caused her grief. Jane on the other hand was ever the peacemaker and kept an open mind before she formed an opinion of a person. In most cases Jane tempered her husband’s behavior by giving him a look of warning…sometimes it worked.

Jane wore a warm and welcoming smile as she shook Melvin’s hand. “It’s so good to meet you Melvin. I’ve just finish talking to your daughter and she is an utter delight. You must be so proud of her, this gallery is beautiful.”

Melvin’s smile widened it always did when his daughter was being praised. “Elizabeth has always been driven in her professional life…this gallery in L.A. is something she’s dreamed of making happen for quite sometime.”

While they were having this exchange Peggy was watching how Tyler wasn’t entirely welcoming of Melvin. She didn’t blame him Melvin could be a trying man but with Melvin she learned that you had to take the good with the bad.

    2. Was Ava having that one night stand with Bette because of breaking it off with Tina? You were not kidding about the drama. At first I thought the drama was with Melvin and Bette and then Alice with Oliver, but now I know that it is Ava that is the drama. Please don’t let it mess with B&T.
