    A second chance- Pt 2

    Chapter 2

“Hey Cap you wanted to see us?”

“Yeah Williams, Porter, take a seat.”

“Something wrong?” Bette asked obviously concerned with her boss’s tone.

    “No no, Haspel moved.”

    “So we heard.” Tasha offered.

“So I take it you’ve heard that we have been assigned a new ADA?”

    “We’ve met her.” Bette informed.

    “Is she here?”

“Well apparently she does her own investigating.”

    “What do you mean?”

“She was at the Fitz Patrick’s apartment.”

    “Oh?”

“Yep. Says she we miss things so she likes to do things herself.”

“Ok. So what did she find?”

“From what we saw it looks like she hasn’t been to the apartment in days maybe weeks. She didn’t live alone and there were a lot of photographs with her and some other woman. We couldn’t get anything from the neighbours.”

“Think Ms Kennard would get us a warrant?” Bette asked still stressing on the Ms.

“If you give something.” Tina started overhearing the conversation as she entered the office.

They turned surprised hearing her voice. “We already have evidence.” Bette interrupted.

“Something substantial,” She stressed. “And I will get you the search warrant.”

“You know you can use what we have. I know there is something in that apartment. You saw for yourself.”

“I did and I know. But I am not going to a judge with a hunch.”

“Tim would have gotten one with less.” Tasha mumbled barely audible to Tina and Phyllis.

“What’s that?” Tina asked slightly annoyed.

“I said we better get going then.”

“Excuse us Cap.” Bette said. “Ms Kennard.”

“That new ADA is kindda hot.” Shane said as Tasha and Bette joined her and Alice at their desks.

“In more ways than one.” Tasha agreed.

“We need more evidence to get a warrant.” Bette mocked in a voice close to Tina’s.

“Any word from Max?” Tasha inquired.

“Uh yeah. She said she found dead skin on the victim which isn’t a match so if we can get something to match it to we can probably find out more on the perp.”

“We need that search warrant.” Shane said a bit frustrated while tapping her pencil on the desk. “Ok,” she started, “Tasha and I will go see Max, see if she found anything else we can use. Alice, Helena asked for one of us to go with her to that Mental Institute where the victim sometimes visited. Maybe she was a patient or she visited someone there. Bette you work on the new ADA. Use your charm.”

“I don’t think my charm will work on her she’s, she’s…”

“She’s coming over here.” Shane completed.

    “Hi, I’m Tina Kennard.”

“Yeah Cap told us. I’m Detective McCutheon and this is Detective Pieszecki. You already know Detective Porter and Williams.”

“Yes. Thank you.” She smiled making eye contact with everyone but Bette, which didn’t go unnoticed by the girls causing an uncomfortable silence among them.

“Well.” Tasha broke the silence. “We better get going.” She waked close to Alice and whispered, “I’ll see you at home ok?”

“Yeah.” Alice whispered back. “I should go to. I have to meet Helena. She can be impatient sometimes.” She made her quick exit leaving Bette and Tina in the squad room alone.

“So I take it you’re here to discuss the case.” Bette asked.

    “Uh yes.”

“Have a seat.” Bette offered pulling out a chair.

“Thank you.” Tina accepted. They were both very formal and impersonal.

Bette handed Tina the case file and watched her as she read through what they’ve gathered so far. “You know you could get more from people if you take that stick from up your ass.”

    “Excuse me?”

“I mean we have to work together. Think its too much to ask for you to treat us with a little more respect?”

    “Respect is earned.” Detective Porter.

    “Not unless it’s given.”

“Perhaps you should live by what you preach Bette.”

    “What?”

    “Typical.”

    “Did I miss something here?”

    “Forget it.”

“No. There is obviously something going on between us and I need to know what that is.”

“What went on between us was seven years ago.”

    “What are you talking about?”

Tina watched Bette searching for some indication that they were on the same page. She realised that Bette had no idea what she was talking about. “You don’t remember do you?”

    “Remember what?”

“Guys we have another body.” Phyllis interrupted.
