Chapter 37
Gillian and Caroline drifted about 30 feet off shore waiting on the next set of waves.
"You are awful quiet today. Is everything okay?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah. I was just thinking that’s all." Gillian said.
"What about?" Caroline asked.
"Lots of things. The future mostly." Gillian answered. Caroline took a deep breath.
"What about it?" She asked bravely. She was a little afraid of the conversation they were about to have.
"I don’t know. My life is getting ready to change drastically. I am just trying to figure everything out." Gillian said.
"How is going to do that?" She asked.
"Well, You are going across the country to school. Bette’s going to ask Mom to marry her. I know that once their are married that they are going to want to have more kids, possibly before. You know I caught my Mom going through the baby section when we went shopping last weekend." Gillian said.
"That doesn’t mean anything." Caroline said. Gillian looked at her like yeah right. "Does Bette even want kids?" She asked.
"I don’t know. Probably. The both get all googily when they get around babies." Gillian said.
"Yeah but being around other peoples babies is different than having them yourself." Caroline said.
"Does that mean you don’t want kids?" Gillian said.
"I’m 18. I’m too young to even think about that." Caroline said.
"Duh. I meant in the future." Gillian said.
"Did you just Duh me?" Caroline asked laughing.
"Duh." Gillian said.
"Are you stuck in the 90’s or something?" Caroline said splashing Gillian.
"Maybe. Look at that one. I’m going." Gillian said as she paddled after a wave.
Gillian rode the wave until it fizzled and could no longer carry her weight. She jumped off and being in only knee deep water she bent over and picked up her board. She walked up the beach to the showers. She placed her board against a wall and stood under the luke warm water.
"We didn’t get to finish our conversation." Caroline said joining her.
"I know but Bette’s gonna be here any minute." Gillian said.
"Damn is it that late already!" Caroline said.
