Chapter 6
Jenny, Shane and Carmen’s
6a.m. and they were still up talking. “So how did you and Alice meet?”
“Well, we had a class together in college,” Carmen answers.
“I know that much, but you guys are friends right… so it’s more then just classmates.”
“Yeah, well – I don’t know,” Carmen laughs, scratching the back of her head. “Alice was in a band – ”
“Oh I see where this is going,” Shane laughs.
Carmen’s shocked and throws the pillow she is holding at her. “You immediately assume that just because she’s in a band I threw myself at her?”
“Well isn’t that how it went?” Shane teases.
“No, actually. Alice and I were never anything more then friends,” Carmen answers truthfully. “This one night, Alice was playing at this really cool club that I could never get into; let’s just say the bouncer hated me ‘cause I wouldn’t do anything to repay the favour of him letting me go in. So, being from the same class, I knew she was headed there that night. Long story short, I ended up having to break my way out of the inside of a drum that was – of course – on stage.” Shane laughs. “It wasn’t funny! The crowd thought it was part of the show and kept chanting for me to sing!”
“Oh my god. Did you?”
“I tried to run off stage, but you know Alice. There’s no way she would’ve ever let someone get away without a little… revenge.” Carmen shook her head at the memory. “It had to be the most embarrassing moment of my life. Standing on stage trying to make up words to a hard rock song. I basically just screamed random words with the deepest and loudest voice I could manage.”
“Oh man – what I would’ve given to be there,” Shane sips her beer smiling.
“After that I had some beers with the band and explained what happened. I had to pay for the drum but ever since that, Alice and I have been friends. We kind of grew apart for a while but we still talked over the Internet.”
“So why did you show up at her doorstep at 1 in the morning?” Carmen’s lightened expression changes instantly and she looks down. Shane notices. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to overstep my boundaries.”

I kind of like that they’re not getting together so soon. As Motorhead put it, “You know the chase is better than the catch.” Well, I don’t know if it’s *better* but it’s nice to enjoy the fun/angst-y ride as well as the destination. Keep it up.
Great chapter – Hope they don’t push each other away… need more soon :)
