All you need is love — chapter 67
ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE
Chapter 67
Bette slipped the white shirt sweater over her head and pulled it over her body. She looked at the clock beside her bed – damn – she was running later . Today they were leaving Becky, Dan, Josh and Madison with Helena and Jodie and going to see Zak and Hannah in their play group’s Christmas concert – both were singing and Zak was understudy for a couple of parts in the nativity play. Bette was more worried about seeing her youngest son on stage than she ever remembered being about Dan – who was a natural actor and Josh who had didn’t know the meaning of stage fright – he just liked to show off. That was on Thursday – but this was Tuesday afternoon so that meant their youngest children making their stage debuts.
She hurried downstairs and looked in on Lara who was reading the newspaper.
“I’m just off “
Lara grinned “ You look pale “
“I feel sick – God I hope he’s okay “
“Zak is like Josh – no fear – Dan is the one you should worry about “
“Should I ?”
“He doesn’t like that he’s not got the leading part “
“He had the leading part last year “
“So he expects it “
“He’s never said “
“There have been much practising of clanking chains “
Bette raised her eyebrow.
“Ghost of Christmas past is rather made for someone who wants to over-act “ she conceded.
Lara laughed “ All I will say is that he has been taking lessons from Alice “
Bette slapped her hand against her brow
“No “
“Yes – can you imagine Alice leaving any of the stage to anyone else ?”
“And she has elected herself Dan’s acting coach ?”
Lara nodded
“I was worried – now I am just terrified “
“I have been debating about whether to tell you or not “
“I think I would rather NOT know “
“Sorry – wrong call “
Bette laughed “ No worries. If he hams it up he hams it up. I sometimes forget that he’s only eight “

Hello Ally, That was wonderful. I loved that Tina was reliving her past as it allowed Bette to step in and show Tina how much different their life together is compared to the previous year’s debacle. Tina being the star of the show for all the wrong reasons. Now Zak has stepped into the ring. Lucky for him that he can get away with it. LMAO as his quick thinking. Now I really can’t wait to read how the proposals go because the love just pours out of Bette and Tina. Even Ollie and Paul are being carried along. Perfect for sime Christmas cheer. Many, many thanks for this joyous and hysterical tale. Your Loyal Fan.
I was pretty sure the older kids would catch on to the ‘practicalities’ although I can understand Tina’s discomfort at the thought. Such a mouth on Dana! Gee, when I was kid, parents didn’t blubber at these things. But then when I was a kid parents had lived through things like the Depression and World War II, which probably gave them a different perspective. Well, now that Zak has adlibbed his way into a whole new cosmology, next year B & T will be getting some additional stares as godless lesbians who’ve failed to raise their kids as proper Christians. Hope this doesn’t earn him a lump of coal in his stocking.
ive been known to get a bit teary eyed when my kids have performed. glad t didnt take a drink. but i could sure use one at work today. what a fucking day. thanks.
As a parent of a young actor, ( drama classes, workshops, theater, choir, you name it, he does it) I can feel B & T’s nervous energy as they sit in the audience. Everytime my son performs, my hands start to sweat and I start to panic. LOL! B & T are not only hot as hell together, but their love for their families and each other is sweet and touching. I absolutely love this story and “NO” the ending was not corny. PS.
i am pissing myself her..too funny…Zak is priceless…..
Zak is priceless!!! I love what a pillar of strength Bette is for Tina. Glad Tina didn’t take that drink. It’s probably coming though. It’s natural to fall off the wagon at least once. I hope not, but things do happen. I just can’t wait until the proposals!! PPS
Ally, brilliant ending to the chapter! I can just see a 4 year old doing that. Can’t wait for your next update…I love this story!
LMAO… Zak is a hoot! Bette once again kept Tina strong. I’m looking forward to proposal time.
Cute and wonderfully warm- thanks Ally.
Oh Ally you are such an awesome writer. I love love love this story. I had to read that last line twice before my brain would accept Zak’s response…then I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants! You’re the best Ally! Thank you so very much!
That was awesome and the kids are funny!
Kids do and say the darnest things. So glad that that Tina didn’t take that drink, It would have broke everyones heart, and messed up the kids holiday. thanks
“I don’t want to put you two off your stroke…” What a lovely way to put it. *giggles like a teenager*
Zak is so cute, LOL so funny. what a cool chapter. it was ncie to see how supportive bette was with tina in the bedroom. tina has come a long way! i can just imagine this 8 bedroom house must look like castle, lol.
LMFAO!!!!!! Zak is a hoot. I don’t recall getting nervous when I had to do this kind of stuff in school. Then I got a bit older and I guess a bit more aware of my surroundings and the seriousness of performing and now, well, it freaks me the fuck out. Once I’m in the moment I’m pretty much fine though. It’s just the time before that I want to puke, cry, whatever.
That was priceless, Zak is a little hoot. Had I been in the audience I would have been in tears from laughing so hard. Zak was sweet to Hannah. This is one lovely and loving little family. Everyone loves everyone else, not counting Paul and Ollie just B&T and the children. Perfect Christmas for them. And Dana talking to Tina was wonderfully funny also. Great chapter AllyE. Thanks for this post, it brightened my day. Our lift is out of order and we had to walk up 6 flights to our office and that is tough on a little old fat lady that is out of shape. LOL!!!!!!!!. PPS
I want to see a description of the house, too bad this site doesn’t have pictures, it would be lovely to see something similiar to what Bette has found for them.
