    An epistolary affair

I try to picture your face but it is simply impossible. I imagine your eyes as they see the words of my letters. I imagine your hands opening the envelope, holding on the light paper carefully so as  to not crease it.
I imagine you under your night sky. Have you ever thought of the fact that you live in my future? You will discover what tomorrow is made out of as I unconsciously sleep away the remnants of the day before.
I took a stroll through the streets of New York this afternoon. I had  your letter with me, tucked away in the back pocket of my jeans. I was thinking about your words, about the question you were asking, the reason why a person is meant to stumble into another’s life.
I came to a playground area. Children were playing happily in the sunshine under the watchful eye of their parents. Laughter on the swing, excited shrieks down the slides, adventurous groans as they climbed rope ladders but my eyes were drawn to the simple mechanism of the lonely unoccupied seesaw. Have you ever wondered why a seesaw is made for two people? Because when you fall, there will always be someone to lift you back up again.
That said, I keep on imagining the person who will share that seesaw with me. My mind is drawn to your name. You have been there for me already, catching my descent and yet I have never met you but I so wish I knew you.
Through all my life, I never knew such a thing could be possible, missing someone I have never known.
This is why I simply adore your idea of a picnic together. Maybe it’ll  disperse somehow this incessant imagining. You, me, a grassy spot, a blanket and a wicker basket full some of our favourite treats. And why not bring real dishes and table cloth and matching napkins. It will be fantastic. Reclining in the sun, thinking up all sort of topics of conversation. Imagining your points of view, your laughter as the discussion turns silly or we happen to spot a real oddity. It will be almost magical. With my eyes closed, I could really imagine you next to me.
I had a thought about what to bring. A true southern treat, homemade too. My mother taught me how to make it. A total decadent indulgence which I am sure you would relish.
But right now I can only keep on imagining. I imagine you at this very moment standing in your apartment. You are holding my letter in your hands and you are perhaps smiling. If you weren’t, you are now as you see I have  arranged for this letter to be specially delivered. This is why you got it today. Sunday. I wanted it to reach you the very day of our picnic so you’d know I wanted to join you for this special occasion.
But Bette, this time I do not want to imagine the distance between us anymore. As you read this letter, I want you to know that I am in Paris, right now, and I will be waiting for you in the park at the Temple of Sybil, today, at seven O’Clock.
I will be waiting for you to exit my imagination and enter my life but for now, I leave you with the thought of me in your unknown hands.

    1. Hehehe, fantastic job, partner! So what do you think, K? Shall we leave it at that? You know, the kind of open ending where the readers can make up their own end according to what they want to happen… Not sure… It’s 2 am now, can we talk about it? ;)

    2. Wow. Wasn’t sure if you were going to have them meet or as Kword suggested, leave the ending open. Can’t wait for Bette’s reaction and to see if they do enjoy their picnic.

    3. ok so everytime i read this story my head spins… you always know i am a sucker for romance and this has me skipping leaps and bounds… but i dont know why it is to this extent. thank you both for this magical journey and allowing me to share it with you. as always a loyal vivid reader Caramel

    4. weel, they are finally in the same space and time…i think they should meet….wouldn’t it be funny if they already met each other before but didn’t know it? LOL kind of like in “I’ve got mail”

    5. Great update but it leaves me w2anting more, much more. And I hope like hell that you don’t end it now, that would be totally unfair. lol Now I have a question, has anyone ever heard of CELLPHONES for these two? This is written today, not 50 yrs. ago where we only had mail from the post office. GEEZ, let them call one another or send a picture by the cellphone, or let one of them get on a damned airplane. Thanks for posting.

    6. Oh,WOW !!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this !! This is getting mote and more excciting if that was possible and now I know the wait for the next letter is gonna be absolutely excruciating… Grrrr ! Ah, KWord.. You know… About our plans for tomorrow night… I think I might have to cancel, I mean I wouldn’t want to keep you from writing… ;) That wouldn’t be fair for all your fans… You cannot keep them hanging like that.

    7. This is after a long time I am delighted to read Author’s Note. You are about to become a proud owner of Laurel Holloman’s painting. Which one by the way? I am really really very happy for you. And “letters” are lovely as ever. I hope our beloved Bette and Tina find eachother.

    8. Whoa…. Too many exciting things!!! :-D first Kins, congrats for being one the proud owner of LH’s painting! :-) may I know which one is that? :-) simply so happy for you!! ^^, second, back to the story… Whoa!! Can’t wait to know what will happen!! :-o I bet Bette would be thrilled!! … Slighty afraid for both of them maybe as you would never know what would happen, whatever in the imagination often much better than reality-even though for them we knew already ;-) it won’t be a nightmare for sure :-) Third, hi Kw.. Cheers!! :-) I hope that your high spirit in discussing the story regardless the timing would mean more chapter and faster reply from both party ;-) ha3 shall I keep cheering you on this?! :-D

    9. Hi Kins, That was truly gorgeous as Tina shared all of her innermost feelings for Bette. The roadhouse moment was funny and sweet given that Tina has given her heart away. Now I can’t wait to find out what reality has instore for these gals. Love and romance for sure. Just an inspiring read. More please and many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
