Anatomy of a Breakdown chapter 1 continued
“I’m in san Francisco. I’m sorry I called and hung up. I just… Well I just needed to hear your voice.” Bette’s honesty shocks Tina for a moment.
“It’s fine. I just… I don’t know exactly why I called. I guess I was worried. The girls told me you were missing.”
“I know I’ve been careless.” Bette’s admission came by way of a whisper. She is ashamed of what she’s put them all through.
“I’m glad you’re okay.” The softness in Tina’s voice strikes a chord with Bette she becomes overwhelmed and the tears begin to fall.
“Thank Tee.” As hard as they both tried neither could deny the palpable connection they shared. “Tee I just want to say…” Bette hesitates.
“What is it Bette?”
“I just want to say…” She breathes in, “I love you Tina. No matter what happens you were and are the most incredible, kind, gentle person I have ever known. I will always love you.”
Tina does not know how to respond to Bette’s confession she feels the same way but the anger and hurt of what Bette had done those months ago were still fresh in her mind.
“Tina? Are you there? Tee?” The panic rises.
“I’m here. I…”
“You don’t have to respond. I just wanted you to hear it from me. No matter what you decide I just need you to know that I love you.” The words are punctuated by her soft sobbing. Tina’s heart breaks at Bette’s agony. Had she punished her beyond repair?
“Bette I have to go. I’m glad you’re okay.” Tina doesn’t wait for Bette’s response as she clicks the phone off.
The busy signal brings Bette back to her current world her legs go weak and slips down the length of the wall she had been leaning on only a fraction of time ago. She pulls her knees into her chest and begins to cry uncontrollably as people pass her by.
‘Babe look, the Golden Gate Bridge.’ Bette looks up from her seat on the sidewalk the red-orange bridge stand massively in front of her as Tina’s voice vibrates in her mind,
‘Isn’t it amazing baby?’
‘Not as amazing as you.’

Very interesting…wish we would have got a little of that on the actual show, you know the reconnection and all those missing pieces like you’ve started here. PPS
Oh man, my heart is breaking as Bette and Tina deal with this mess. I was happy that Tina returned the call.
Glad I stayed up. I really like this.It what we didnt see and how both felt months later thanks
You got my heart racing. Great story so far. Please keep going.
So glad your Bette had the courage to be honest about her feelings with Tina. I found it so frustrating that we never got to see them talk to each other. Thanks for the post.
Seems that you are taking a tack with the story that no one else has done, not even IC. Thanks for posting. Please continue.
Well I’m hooked already! Please continue soon xx
This is so riveting! I can feel Bette’s agony! PPS
I like this. I have always wanted to read a story that took place after the pool incident. We were left with Bette floating in the pool after coming home and finding tina’s stuff gone. i’m looking forward to seeing where you take this.
