Bangladesh. Chapter Two: Meet the Gang.

Alex pointed out that the light had turned green, and Shane hesitantly put both hands back on the wheel. “Shane, we’ve known each other for an hour,” Alex murmured, staring out the window. She couldn’t remember the kind of relationship she and Shane had that week, but it didn’t seem to matter.

                “I know —I’m sorry—you are completely right.”

The San Diegan smiled, replying, “You aren’t looking for love either, remember?”

                “Yeah. Right.”

They pulled up to the house. Alex got out of the car and stretched before helping Shane unload all of her parcels from the bed of the truck. “Thanks for doing this,” Alex panted, hauling an oversized luggage bag up the cobblestone stairs. “It’s really kind of you.”

“Its no problem,” Shane wheezed back, struggling with Alex’s guitar case and duffle bag. The butch kicked open the door and dropped Alex’s things inside, rubbing her sore hands together. “It’s up to you the sleeping arrangements: Jenny already said she was fine with anything. She and I could share a room, you and her, me and you: whatever you want.”

“Well would you like a room to yourself?”

“I really don’t care, to tell you the truth.” Alex raised an eyebrow. She excelled at reading people, and even though she didn’t really know Shane, she was relatively confident the butch was lieing through her teeth.

“Okay…I think this Jenny and I will share a room, then.” Shane smiled, picking up half of Alex’s things and showing her to Jenny’s room. There was already an extra bed, although without any covers. Alex assumed this was her bed and thus began putting her sheets on it.

Shane asked, “Do you want me to help you unpack?”

“No, I’m fine, but thanks.” Alex unzipped her duffle and began refolding clothes and stashing them into the empty dresser that was between her bed and Jenny’s double bed. “I like it here,” Alex said, continuing to unpack. She stored some items under her bed, on top of the dresser, and around the bedroom. “So, what do you do for a living?” she asked, trying to start up some conversation. Shane had laid down on Jenny’s bed and was scrutinizing a novella.
