    Beautiful Tuscany Chapter 6

“We’re so happy to see you again, sweethearts!” Maria said as she pinched their cheeks. “It’s been far too long.”

“Come here you two!” Luigi said as he swept them up in a friendly embrace. “Now you sit and tell me what you like to eat. I can fix whatever you like.” They ordered their favorite dishes, Tina had the veal parmigiana and Bette thoroughly enjoyed the chicken marsalla. Then towards the end of the evening, with their stomachs full, Bette finally told Maria and Luigi the good news. And upon hearing it, they insisted Tina and Bette stay at their villa in Tuscany. After finally accepting their offer of hospitality, Maria and Luigi let them leave. Tina wasn’t surprised, it was so Italian. Good people, good food, great friends.

Bette was convinced all the sign’s were in their favor.  However, as she sat there chatting away the hours with Tina, thoughts began to creep in. And one rang true in her head, forgiving herself. If it were going to work, this had to be a concerted effort. It was about so many things. Forgiveness was just the first step. The stewardess came around she offered them a beverage and a snack. She told them lunch would be served later in the flight. That made Bette happy she was running low on fuel. Starting out with a muffin and two cups of coffee was not her normal routine. She hadn’t time that morning for Tai Chi and Tina wasn’t feeling up to jogging. For her, the caffeine had kicked in and while Tina rested, Bette found it hard to do so. Later in the flight Tina woke up and realized she had been sleeping quite awhile.

“What time it?” she asked Bette.

“Well, sleepy head, you’re finally awake. It’s almost 3pm Bette answered.

Tina sat up and stretched. “Are we landing soon?” she asked yawning.

“We should be real soon,” Bette assured her.

“How soon is soon, any idea?” She looked to Bette for an answer. And just then the captain made an announcement.

“This is your captain speaking; we are in our descent and we’ll be landing in five minutes. Please remain in your seats and fasten your seatbelts.”
