Before I fall in love (2/10) – a Bette and Helena story
Well, thats true, but didnt Oscar Levant say there is a thin line between genius and insanity? Id prefer not to further elaborate on this topic and allow you to catch up on your sleep. See you later. Helena smirked and hung up the phone, leaving Bette rather intrigued at their correspondence.
Time: 8am
Bette tossed and turned in bed for the umpteenth time until she decided to get up and go for a cup of coffee at The Planet. Something was definitely wrong with the world today. The sky was gloomy with dark clouds looming ominously ahead. Everyone seemed listless and despondent, mumbling to each other in unresponsive tones. I hate yellow cars, Bette decided at last, after scrutinizing one for a long time. Honestly, yellow is a ricey color and screams Im an attention whore! The amber color of that wretched contraption across the road also did not match with the rest of the neat shop houses and stuck out like a sore thumb.
The truth is the whole world seemed completely miserable. Someone decided that playing the different mutations of the theme song from the L word was an excellent way to start the morning. Even Kits latest hairdo appeared to be a cross between a beehive and a birds nest. It was hideous. Bette made a mental note to ask Shane to fix it later. Finally, Bette came to a decision.
I will not go for that bloody meeting.
That probably explains why she was sitting at Pregos 4 hours later, sipping a cup of cold coffee, listening to Helena and Senator Grisham discuss strategies to increase visibility for Gay and Lesbian adoption.
Ladies, I need to make my point clear. I dont wish to attract too much attention to my custody case. As you know, I never cared about any publicity – positive or negative – on myself, but Angelica would already have a hard enough time growing up as a bi-racial child with estranged parents. Not to mention that if Tina and Henry get married, she wouldnt look like anyone in that family, so people would automatically assume that shes adopted from an underprivileged home. I dont want her to feel like what Ive felt for the first eighteen years of my life, always on the outside, looking in.

This was a great start! I am already looking forward to the next chapter! Thank you!
“Even Kit’s latest hairdo appeared to be a cross between a beehive and a bird’s nest. ” LMAO … on certain mornings, I feel the same way. Great start! Keep it coming!
great chapter, cant wait for the next one!
Nice start. Hoepe you post soon. One thing I would say that didn’t quite ring true and I’m sure this may be from not living in the U.S. – empassioned speeches on behalf of funding for the arts would NOT get positive feedback on fox news. Fox is a big time right wing, conservative news channel their cheering generally goes to god, guns and anti-gay.
Good job, I can’t wait for more! Do I sense a little jealousy on Helena’s part toward the senator??
I love it! I’m glad you brought the Senator back into this too, I liked her. But yay! They’re both slowly falling for each other! Great chapter, can’t wait for more.
That was great,in some states you would stand a chance. Heck in most of them. Men are just coming into getting there right to there children. Looking forward to the next chapter thanks
this is great rebelzz! I’m getting the feeling that there’s a little jealousy of the senator on Helena’s part…the underlying sexual tension is rife! Loving it so far!
