Bette and the Business Woman [Part 14]

As Bette stepped off the elevator she kept on her sunglasses to make herself a bit less noticeable.  As if Harmony wouldn’t immediately recognizer her.  She first scanned the floor to see if she saw Harmony or Roxanne walking about.  When she was confident the cost was clear she became her trek down the hall to Harmony’s secretary.  She kept close the walls and kept her head down.  She received a few strange glances from a few people but nothing too serious.  Once she got to the corner she peaked around to make sure Harmony’s office door was closed.  When she knew it was she approached Stacy.

    Bette:  “Good morning Stacy.”

She flashed that winning smile of hers. Stacy looked up at Bette and made her annoyance obvious.  Bette was in for a fight.

Stacy:  “Ms. Porter.  How may I help you?”

Bette:  “Ms. Porter?  There’s no need to be so formal Stacy.  Call me Bette.”

Stacy:  “Ms. Scott is busy right now Ms. Porter.  Would you like to leave a message?”

    Bette immediately stopped smiling.

Bette:  “No that won’t be necessary.  I was actually wondering if you could do me a favor.”

    Stacy was silent.

Bette:  “Ok.  Umcould you tell me where I could find Roxanne?”

Stacy just looked at her.  After a few seconds.

Stacy:  “Are you serious.  You kissing her too?”

Like a smack in the face.

Bette:  I thought Harmony didn’t tell her secrets.  She must have been really hurt if she told Stacy.  “I don’t believe that’s any of your business.”

Stacy:  “Harmony’s my friend as well as my boss.  And she’s very hurt.  So please believe it is my business.”

Stacy was getting loud.  Bette began to whisper.  She didn’t want Harmony to come out to investigate the outburst and in turn begin one herself.

Bette:  “Look I’m actually here to fix it.  That’s why I need to talk to Roxanne.”

Stacy:  “Well I’m sure she’ll prove to be even more difficult then I am being right now.  So maybe you should just go.”

Bette and Stacy just stared each other down for a while.  Bette knew Stacy was probably right but Bette knew that after the other night that if Roxanne tried anything she was liable to strangle her.  As Bette turned to walk away she saw Jackie talking to someone in the hall.  A bulb went off in her head.  She made sure she had a little cleavage showing and again flashed that brilliant smile of hers.   She walked over to Jackie as she stopped talking to the associate.
