Bette — Plan B; pt. 71
Do I knock? It’s strange to contemplate, but I think that I should. Here I am, at the house I bought, wherein lives my family, and I’m knocking at the door.
Jess answered. I give her a smile. Regardless of anything else, it really is amazing to be spending time with her. “Hello.”
“Hey.” And with that she runs off.
Tina, fortunately, is far more receptive to my visit. She not only accepts a kiss on the cheek, but she tosses an arm over my shoulder, holding me close to her for what I’m sure would be considered an inappropriately long time were we trying to feign a mere friendship.
“Thanks for coming,” she whispered into my ear.
The feelings of her warm breath on my ear and the light kiss she places on my lips as she releases me feigns absolutely nothing resembling friendship.
After a moment of gazing into her eyes, it dawns upon me that I had brought wine for dinner. I present the bottle. “You said salmon.”
She gives me a smile. “I’m sure it’ll be wonderful. Does it need to breathe?”
I need to breathe, but that’s not the question. “I’ll open it,” I told her, motioning towards the kitchen.
There is no mistaking that this kitchen has always been Tina’s domain. Before Tina moved into the house, the kitchen lacked an owner. Once she was here, well, she adopted it in its abandonment and made it the center of the house.
Past experience and my recent residence making finding a corkscrew easy. I open the bottle, placing it on the counter, before returning to Tina’s presence.
Jess has returned, also.
“How was your day?” I ask Jess.
She squints, giving me this very strange look. “How was your day?”
Well, Jess, the best part was your mother not saying “no” when I asked her if she can see a future for us. That discussion was sealed with a brief but intense lovemaking session. And I’m sure you won’t really want to hear about either. “It was a good day.”
“Why?”
She drags out the word, as if that affectation will produce some effect.
“Because.” I use a similar drawl.
She now looks between her mother and I, but doesn’t respond. A little bit of a pout, maybe. I bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing. She looks so like Tina, and has so many similar expressions. Yet there are some aspects that are singularly Jess, and this pout is one of them.
I let the silence hang between us for a moment, and decide that if she’s not going to let me know why she’s being odd, I’m not going to question what can, at times, be status quo for the girl.
Tina, however, has moved closer to me as we’ve been standing here. I don’t believe she even realizes that she’s doing this. To me, though, it’s wonderful. It speaks to an amazing level of acceptance and trust.
“How was your day at school, Jess?”
She shrugs. “We’re almost done.”
“Ready for finals?”
Another shrug. “Whatever.”
With that she tore back down the hallway.
I looked to Tina. “She knows, huh?”
“She got into my purse earlier.”
“She’s not freaking out.” I saw that as a positive.
“A little. Earlier.”
“You’re not freaking out, are you?”
Tina smiled. She placed a hand under my chin before moving in for another kiss. This one certainly not meant to portray friendship.
Standing this close, I couldn’t help but take hold of Tina’s left hand. No ring.
“I -” She looks down, pulling her hand from my grasp. “I can’t, yet.”
I regained hold of her hand and placed a kiss on her empty finger. “When you’re ready.”
“Aren’t we ever going to eat?”
The child returneth.

I love Jess and her “pissedoffedness”(my new word for the day). She just makes me smile. I love that you’re not moving this along too fast. The pace is perfect.
Great as always. And as always I can’t wait for more.
So lighthearted and fun yet filled with anticipation. With you it’s a winning effort everytime. Thanks Psued.
Psued – I am infrequent with commenting but a daily reader of this site and I must say – that I so enjoy your story and each of the POV….It is a wonderful read each and every time. Thank you!

I really enjoy this story every time you post it’s a pleasure to read.
How do you do it – such ease and grace as you portray 3 different personalities with differing moods and needs – You are amazing me with this story – can’t wait for more.
God, I love this story. Jess cracks me up and I am glad that Tina seems to be preparing herself for her (their) eventual fate. As I know that Jess will come around, I presently enjoy the cat/mouse game she is playing with Bette. I look forward to the day Bette is able to enthraw her once again as she did in NY while she was explaining art. Thanks for the great story!!!!
*still waving at downlow until she waves back*

“”Aren’t we ever going to eat?””
Ah, the patience of youth perfectly portrayed, pseud!
Jess is something else..lol..its time for Bette start to teach how to do a good payback..lol..Jess think she is the only smart ass in there..great chapter Pseud as always thanks :o)
Bette should have realized she was about to go down the rabbit hole when she was standing in front of her own house wondering whether or not she should knock.
As Bette stood wondering if her greeting should be chaste, Tina moves in to let her know she could be chased.
I think that Jess has found a new hobby…she’s a human boomerang.
That was the perfect peek into what is to come. I have a feeling that ‘cat’ and ‘mouse’ are the main entrees for this dinner.
Did Bette only bring one bottle of wine?
Great beginning to the night. Bring it on!
Jess is so funny…great post like always…please post soon!
PSSSSSSEEEEUUUUUDDDDDD!!!! I loved this chappy! then again, I love all your posts! ….and how about Bette handling everything Jess throws at her with such poise and style! Thanks a bunch!
Does it get redundant to read the comments about how great the story is and how well you write it and how well you deliver three seperate entitities?
…I didn’t think so.
:)
Keep it up pseud!
