    Bette — Plan B; pt. 79

As I walked Tina to the door, I could practically feel her fatigue. She clung to my arm, and I was happy to be there to provide strength.

Of course, it was also our conversation that had left her so drained. It’s one thing to realize that I’ve hurt her. It’s quite another to see how that hurt remains, even now.

After she calmed down in the car, I brought her here. I felt a little shy, myself, standing at the door. But after she opened it, she brought me inside.

“I need a drink, do you want anything?”

“No, thanks.” I want a drink. A large, stiff drink. But I think it’s best if I have nothing.

She returned with a bottle of sparking water and took a seat in the middle of the couch, motioning for me to sit next to her.

With a sense of foreboding, I did. I’ve seen her with this look before.

    “Please don’t be mad.”

Good conversations never start off with those words. I brace myself for what’s to follow.

“But I think you should go to New York.”

“T?” Was I being excused? What?

She held up her hands defensively. “I know, I know I asked you not to go.”

Asked, with a twinge of hysteria. Yes, you did ask.

“But I also know that this is something we need. I need.”

This still doesn’t make sense to me. She wants me to leave. Does she want me to come back? “If you don’t want me to go, baby.”

Now a smile. Sadness, but a smile nonetheless. “Bette, I need to know that we can survive this. We can’t be together always. I’ve had to travel, now you need to travel.” She put the water down and drew up her legs, wrapping her arms around them, shutting herself off. “I trust you, but I need this.”

In other words, she needed to know that I would ***** up. Again.

I suppose I don’t blame her for that. Given my track record, it’s not an unreasonable fear. “Are you sure.”

“You’ve been here for a while. And you’ve been here.” She motioned, her arms out, palms down. “I haven’t felt like I’ve been sharing you with your job. You, meanwhile, have had to deal with my work, my schedule.”

    1. Hey, I can’t believe it. Am I the first to comment?

Good, Tina has calmed down. She’s realized that Bette’s trip back to NY will be good for both of them. She will also realize how much she will miss and need Bette. Bette will of course pass with flying colors at this test. Such a sweet, welcoming kiss

Pseud, thanks for this post. Hope the next one will not be too far off.

    2. Skipton, I think it’s 85 that Tina tosses her out and I agree, each chapter leading up to it is foreboding…is it reality, either past (hopefully) or present or a nightmare of Bette’s…either way, is was brillant…it certainly captivated your audience! Psued…this story is wonderful…I don’t want it to end!

    3. yo-ho; yo-ho; it’s the best of the show! I think Bette feels ‘missed out’ on being a mommy. I still chuckle at the conversation where Jess ask if Bette can support her mom.

Am really glad you posted and biting my nails, waiting for the next post.

Thanks for sharing your time and story.

    4. Pseud

      Another brilliant and beautiful chapter.

It is interesting to see how much Tina and Bette have changed. They are now able to be honest and open with other. Yes, Bette going to New York is a test of their love and trust.
Trust is the foundation of a true and loving partnership. A union without trust is like a house built on the sand; it may look strong and welcoming from the outside but it will not last through the seasons as life and the weather assaults it.

These tentative steps are wondrously written and captured by your flair and genius. Although there are rough times ahead I am sure that together Bette and Tina are stronger and will ride out the storms.

Jess needs to see this and take a chance on trusting Bette. Nothing in life, other than taxes and death, is certain so feel the fear and do it anyway. The rewards will out weigh the pitfalls.

Personally I thank 100 is a fantastic place to stop.

Much gratitude and appreciation for sharing your gift with me.

      Your Loyal Fan.

    5. Uh-oh Jess is home, I can imagine her being all happy and then upon seeing Bette be like, ‘Porter’s waiting up for me. What did mum kick her out of her room?’

Have I said that I love this story? Probably a million times, but that doesn’t change the fact that I do. I’m still bracing myself for what’s to come…

Thanks for this and post again soon please.

    6. You know P, I am really getting to like your short chapters because they are so sweet and powerful. Don’t get me wrong, I love the longer stories, but you just have an uncanny knack for nailing the story on the short ones. Loved it! Thanks.

    7. hey pseud. just caught up. great chapter as ususal. good to see bette and tina communicating their feelings to each other. cant wait to see how jess reacts to bette waiting for her. miss seein u in chat. have a great day

    8. you know- with that chapter that you threw out a while ago, i don’t know, 83 or something around there, where Tina throws Bette out of the house, i have had a huge sense of trepidation with every chapter since, knowing that each new post was leading up to that one. all i can say is that i am looking forward to 84 and on, in hopes that you will bring some happiness to all three of them.

if i haven’t said this before, wanted to let you know that this story that you have penned is nothing shy of brilliant and i love each and every update.

thanks and as usual, will be looking for more!

    9. I’m so glad to see you saying you’ll finish this story, although if possible, I hope the story be endless.

Tina’s giving Bette or herself a chance to let herself to trust her again. I can predict there’ll be some misunderstanding happening (I still remember the TBP chapter). Fingers crossed for Bette.

    10. is this all leading to a drama? that tina won’t really trust bette and that’s why ch. 85 will happen? i hope it’s all will work out for B&T and sounds like next chapter is Jess point of view? she cracks me up and she seemed to warm up to bette…thanks for posting

    11. p – email a girl sometime huh? im a little confused by this. we know bette is NOT gonna do anything to jeopardize this opportunity to be with her family. so where exactly does chappy 85 fit into all of this???

how cute was bette wanting to wait up for jess? tina still so fragile. but to her credit didn’t go down the blame path. good job, gf. get your work and studies done to your specifications. well definately be here.

    12. Imagine my happiness after being away and not having access to the site, to find all your updates. Since the begining every chapter has held us, kept us wanting for more, and still does. Your updates always seem to be so real always bringing us to that edge but never going over beyond reality. Loved this last one. Bette waiting up for Jess too cute. Remember chapter 85 whatever thats about unless its good, it best be a dream or just you yanking our chain.
