Bette & Tina – The Beginning: Chapter Nine
Bette felt the tension and conflict in Tina’s body language and she reached out her hand to stroke Tina’s hair. “Tina?” she asked. Tina sighed and removed her hands from her temples. Turning to face Bette she softly placed one hand on Bette’s thigh. Shit, Bette thought, she’s going to leave. This was too much for her to handle.

Chapter Nine
Bette looked down at the delicate hand resting in her lap. She softly picked it up and covered it with both of her own. If she says this was a mistake, I don’t know what I’ll do. She felt the sting of tears forming in her eyes and she blinked them back. After a long moment, she looked up and saw Tina’s hazel eyes staring right back at her.
“Bette,” Tina began as Bette braced herself, “I know we’ve been taking things really slow. And I know you’ve waited so patiently because I asked you to. This has been a lot for me to absorb. I’ve never been attracted to another woman before. And then I met you in your gallery.” Bette shifted in her seat. She tilted her head to the side as she admired Tina. She listened intently as Tina spoke. She wasn’t sure exactly where this conversation was headed, she only knew that she was completely captivated by just the sound of Tina’s voice.
“I needed that time to sort out my feelings which, I admit, I’m still unsure about. I mean, my heart is pulling me one direction and my head is pulling me in another. Like I said, I wasn’t attracted to women before. I’m not sure if I’m gay or if, somehow, all the roads I’ve taken were meant to lead me right here – right to you.”
Listening to her, Bette began to feel more and more vulnerable. For years she had built protective walls around herself, never letting anyone in; never letting anyone get close enough to hurt her. Then Tina had walked through the doors of her gallery. In the six weeks that they had been dating, she had allowed Tina to slowly demolish those sacred walls. Now she felt completely defenseless and exposed to all the pains that came along with loving somebody. Fuck! Why did I let this happen, she thought.

There is always fear in the unknown. Do I take that step or do I close my eyes and pretend it does not exist. Bette and Tina should take that step towards one another.
Well at least Bette’s fears have been put to rest so she can get back to the business of loving Tina. Yeah and thanks for the post. Great story.
