Bette’s Dilemma- Home
Tina’s
Returning to the living room with Angelica in her arms, Tina gathered her thoughts to ask Kit who had been on the phone with all the control she could muster. She was fairly sure it had been Bette but she didn’t want to betray any of the stress she felt.
"Thanks Kit for grabbing that. I swear I can’t wait until she is toilet trained no more diapers! Angelica and I will both be happy. Who was it?"
Kit had turned just as Tina entered the room and Tina saw the look of concern that crossed the other woman’s face before she spoke, "Bette and she told me to tell you she was on her way here. She sounded like shit"
Angelica who had been content to play with Tina’s hair to this point began to squirm in Tina’s arms, bored with the adult conversation she wanted to move on to other things. Walking to the play pen Tina and set her daughter inside; the little girl’s eyes betrayed her glee at the toys that now lay within arms reach. Part of her had hoped that the motion would have distracted Kit’s attention from Bette’s call but she was not surprised to see that Kit had taken a seat at the table in the dining area. As Tina walked over to take the seat across from her one time sister-in-law she saw the a dark slightly menacing look filled Kit’s eyes.
"So what’s going on Tina?"
"What do you mean Kit?"
"Save the innocent act Tina. Something is up and I want to know what. I’ll be honest when Bette told me you two were going to try again I warned her against it"
Kit’s directness would have unnerved Tina if she had not had the lengthy experience she had with the Porters, particularly Kit and Bette’s father Melvin (she had often been on the recieving end of his bluntness). Tina bit back the defensiveness that pressed against her lips knowing the words that had just been said were the product of Kit’s love for Bette.
"Kit, I can’t talk to you about this I swear but I want you to know that it has nothing to do with me. We are both very aware of what is at stake with us."
