Bike Ride, LIfe Ride – Chapter 36

Dr. Miller said he would order the sonogram and would bring a nurse to bring the sonogram machine to Bette’s room. This way she could stay comfortable in her room and not have to leave.  Tina thanked him and walked back to Bette’s room and found her staring out the window.

Tina said “I am back babe and the nurse is going to bring a sonogram machine in here for you. Are you ok? What are you thinking?”

Bette said “I don’t feel pregnant. I don’t feel anything. Am I supposed to feel something?”

Tina said “Bette you aren’t supposed to feel anything except what you are feeling. Please try not to worry”.

A nurse knocked and brought in a sonogram machine and set it up in the room and explained that Dr. Miller would be in shortly. A few minutes later, Dr. Miller knocked and came in. He said hello to Bette and kept everything really brief, as he could see that Bette was in no mood for small talk. She was visibly upset. Dr. Miller explained that he would be inserting a wand into Bette and locating the fetus to look for a heartbeat.

Bette looked concerned and looked at Tina. Tina picked up on Bette’s concern and said “what is wrong babe? “

Bette said “I thought you put gooey stuff on my stomach? What is this wand that we are inserting. That doesn’t sound comfortable to me”.

Dr. Miller jumped in and said “Actually Bette, I think you are very early along in your pregnancy and the gooey stomach thing is for ladies that are farther along than this. The wand is vaginal and it is able to pick up early heart detection. It is slightly uncomfortable, but Tina will hold your hand and I will be very gentle, ok?”

Bette furrowed her brows and looked very unhappy and said “Fine”.

Dr. Miller put lubricant on the wand and inserted it slowly and gently into Bette as she winced and Tina tightened her grip on her hand.  Dr. Miller moved it around a bit and then adjusted a special computer monitor screen and after about 30 to 60 seconds located something that caught his eye. He zoomed in on the screen and said “Well there you have your baby right there and that little blip in the screen is the heart beating”.

Tina and Bette both looked at the computer screen, somewhat in shock. They just stared at the screen. They didn’t say anything.

Dr. Miller said that he was looking at some measurements and estimated that Bette was in the very early stages of pregnancy. He said he thought she was 6 to 8 weeks pregnant.  Bette dropped her head because the timing was just right for Jodie’s visit.

Dr. Miller said “Bette, would you like me to print out a photo picture for you?”

Bette looked at Tina and Tina nodded for her to answer Dr. Miller. Tina was not going to say yes or no and had no idea how Bette was feeling at this moment.

Bette said “Yes. I want one. Now take that thing out of me, it hurts”.

Dr. Miller pressed a button and printed out a photo and handed it to Bette. He cleaned up all his stuff with the help of a nurse standing by and ordered the equipment brought out of the room. Bette took the photo and put it face down on the tray by her bed.

Once Dr. Miller and the nurse was out of the room Bette and Tina just stared at each other. Neither spoke.

    1. that machine could be wrong… and she could only be 3 or 4 weeks along… or JODY has been trying to get her pregnant for a while.. and it took… pps

    2. Great chapter. I don’t think Bette should keep this child: 1. they don’t know anything about the sperm donor; 2. only God knows where jodi got the sperm and 3. jodi is an mean, evil, nasty BITCH and she would do anything to hurt Bette.; 4. jodi never wanted children and 5. she has only done this so that she could keep a hold on Bette and be in her life forever more. ABORTION is the name of the game in this situation because the child was conceived by rape and she should not have to keep this child, just as she would have done if she’d been raped by some strange man. Instead she was raped by her strange as hell, ex-girlfriend on purpose. Hopefully Bette will make the difficult decision to have an abortion for her own protection and she should now file the rape charges. My opinion only. Thanks for posting a very difficult chapter with major repercussions for all involved. Legally and medically I would advise an abortion for her own safety. Thanks.

    3. evil jodi raped Bette. I know it’s not the baby fault but if it’s born who baby will it be? Tina or jodi? For me it wil b jodi and I hate the devil. Another hand, Bette is carrying the baby and might want to keep it but who the child will remind her off?? Jodi. It is sad. I would like Bette to give a chance to the baby but who s it? Gosh difficult decision to make. Goodluck Bette and Tina. I just don’t want jodi back again. Can she go to Antartic and never return please? May be Bette and Tina could raise the baby as their own.

    4. I know that what Jodi did was horrible, and they may need to find out who the sperm belongs to, but in reality they could keep the baby as long as no harm from the pregancy come to Bette, because it will be like an anynomus donor, and Tina and Bette could raise the child, because despite what Jodi did, she has no claim on the bady or Bette. Keep the baby, he or she is an innocent soul in all of this chaos. Raise it as their own.

    5. I’m with Dainty too, and I don’t like how Dr. Miller is referring to the fetus as Bette’s baby, and him asking if she would like to have a picture is also wrong in my opinion. Tina told him that Bette’s pregnancy was not a consensual one, so he should have really been more careful about his wording and actions. Thanks for the update and pps.

    6. This is a really tough situation. No matter how far along the pregnancy is it is a heartbreaking decision. You can call it a fetus or baby or whatever you want. That doesn’t change anything. Putting blinders on and pretending it’s not living is not going to help in the end. She can’t really fool herself. She has seen the heart beating. It’s not her body…it’s another body inside her body. It’s going to be a very difficult emotional experience if she decides to make the choice to stop that heart from beating. I would like to see her come to the conclusion that Jodi and her intentions don’t really matter. What does matter is that this life inside her is hers and she needs to move forward in deciding what is best for herself, Tina and this life inside her. Jodi is out of the picture entirely.
