    A romantic Bette and Tina story.


    Just about the time that Tina expected Bette to open the front door, the phone rang.


    “Hello.”


    “Hey, T.”


    “Hey. I thought you’d be home by now.”


    “I’m on my way, but I wanted to tell you something exciting.”


    Tina smiled.


    “We’re invited to the Shapiro’s for a cocktail party.”


    Tina didn’t know who Bette was talking about. “Ok, When?”


    “Tonight.”


    Tina’s face dropped, but before she could speak Bette jumped in.


    “Before you say anything, I called the restaurant and they moved our reservation back an hour…”


    “But…


    “We’ll have plenty of time to stop at the Shapiro’s and then go and have your birthday dinner.” She smiled broadly, hoping to convey the warmth through the phone line.


    Tina sighed loudly.


    “They’re huge supporters of mine, T.” Bette’s tone of voice took on a hint of defensiveness. “They put up money for the gallery, they’re serious collectors who’ve bought several pieces from me.”


    Tina closed her eyes, resigned.


    “Ok, So what’s this party tonight?”


    “They’re having a few of their friends in … their wealthy, art curious friends.”

    3. I was reading this thinking, “If this is romantic, I’d hate to see a story where they are really fighting.” lol Guess we needed a set-up for the romance. I like it. Please continue!

    4. Very nice. This is a great story. Tina has every right to want Bette’s undivided attention. It is her BIRTHDAY and what better gift than to have your loved one all to yourself? I thought Tina was very understanding about putting her special dinner on hold so Bette could mingle with her influential friends. For Bette to push her dinner later and later, just proved again that Bette is all about herself. Hopefully, they will be able to talk in bed and clear the air. Post again soon.

    5. Yey!!! You’re back…finally!!!! I have been waiting for your return (not so patiently as you know) and did a happy dance when I saw your name. Your first story, Driving, is one of my all time favorites, so thank you for treating us with your gift once again.

    6. This is great. Very different story angle. It captures Bette’s drive and ambition. She doesn’t want to miss out on anything. Tina plays second fiddle to Bette’s ambitions. Bit if Bette were a man, Tina might think she is doing what a “good provider” does. Interesting.

    10. I am new to your stories but I enjoyed the beginning of this one. Hopefully they can begin to work out some of their differences. Bette needs to not put Tina off or Tina will begin to draw more and more attention from others around her.

I can feel Tina’s frustration and Bette’s lack of understanding that she can’t do it all. You sometimes have to make choices or they make you. Nice start and I can’t wait for more.

I saw the word ‘romantic’ in your comments and thought YEEEES, so right now I’m a bit surprised, but I’ve faith in you :o)). Bette REALLY has some making up to do and not only because of Tinas ruined birthday, but the way I feel she treats Tina in general. No girl likes to be number two after the work. Very clear, and i can see it(which is not always easy for me in fics).Unlike others, i kinda enjoy my B&T fighting a little.Incredibly cute that way!     24. Massmom, That was a very interesting start to a potentially intriguing and enticing story. I like the way that you kept true to the characters traits of Bette and Tina. I can really see Bette wanting to adore Tina however becoming completely wrapped up in her art world to the detriment of her partner and then having arranged the romantic ‘grand’ gesture throwing the good will it generated straight out the door with a selfish comment over the practicality of her gift. Tina was equally believable as she acquiesced to Bette’s career for so long and then took matters into her own hands and demanded attention. Her conversation and good manners with Jake brought out the jealous beast in Bette which also peeved Tina. The whole watch dialogue was like watching an accident you knew that it was going to happen and wanted a different outcome but knew the carnage would follow.     29. A story from Massmom and a Melissa Etheridge concert all in the same day…I must have done something right! As a huge fan of anything you write, I’ll be waiting for more of this enticing story.
