    Blast from the Past

“How many delegates are registered for the conference?” Bette asked her secretary as she finished scribbling her notes.

“We’re approaching capacity,” Doris replied. “The work that you’ve put into this is really paying off. It’s going to be one of the most successful the college has ever held.”

Bette couldn’t keep the smile from lighting up her face as she concluded their conversation.

“Thanks Doris,” she replied. “This will be your success too. You’ve really helped me gain my footing here.”

Doris had worked with numerous Deans over the years, and this was the first time she felt truly valued for the pride she took in a job well done. It made her want to work that much harder for Bette.

Doris was a motherly type, who felt she needed to take Bette under her wing. It was obvious that she was still hurting from the recent break up of a long-term relationship. She shared custody of Angelica with her ex-partner, who she had never referred to by name. Tina had dropped off the child once, late on a Friday afternoon, for one of Bette’s weekends though. It seemed to Doris she had lingered longer than necessary, perhaps not quite sure herself just where they had gone wrong.

“Maybe you will meet someone at the conference to spend some time with,” Doris suggested innocently. “You know you spend altogether too much time at this school.”

“Playing matchmaker are you?” Bette replied with a laugh. “I’m really not looking right now Doris. I love my job and I love spending time with my daughter. I’m perfectly happy the way things are.”

“Just when you aren’t looking, that’s when something happens…”

“Thank you for the sage wisdom,” Bette smiled. “I just don’t think it’s in the cards right now.”

After Doris left, Bette picked up the phone.

“Alice, hey it’s me,” she said.

“Dean Porter,” Alice replied. “So nice of you to keep in touch with the little people.”

“I’ve been busy Al, I’m not ignoring you,” Bette said by way of apology. “If you and Dana are going out tonight, would you mind a tag along?”

“No mothering this week?” Alice asked. “You don’t often make it out on a Thursday night.”

    1. Dear JKS, i love the way u write and each story is so unique. in order to safeguard my heart (which is an alomst completely shattered tibette heart) i may not read a story where ‘he’ is still in tina’s life, but i will always root for you! peace!

    2. hmmm, can’t wait to see where you take this one. i’m a b&h loyalist, but this could have a nice twist…as long as it doesn’t include tina…lol.

    3. hey swimmie!!! love to see anything new from you. and oh the possibilities with this one are endless!! will there be a catfight between b and h over danica? a threesome, maybe?? he he. whatever you decide I’m sure I’ll love it!

    4. Hey Swimmie – you know I totally surrended the last time you posted something other that B&T. I loved “Wanted” after a couple of chapters, but I don’t think I can do it again. It’s painful and so sad for me to read about our girls not together and with other people. But your writing is always excellent and amazing. I just hope you will write about happy B&T for instance “Snippets of bliss” :o))

    5. We wish to read it, if you wish to tell it, thank you. Sussex is a great place, so I am told ………….Always a great pleasure to read your stories, your conversation skills that you weave here are wonderfully rich and warm, placing a smile firmly on these lips. More please …………..

    6. this is great, thanks. this friday challenge has spurred on a lot of people to write around Bette’s coming out story (but no one’s putting it up for the challenge!) ..can’t wait to see where u take this.

    9. JKS, this is a great story, I hope that you will continue it. I loved your Wanted story, bette needs to get some lovin from somewhere.
