    Chandelier – 41

Bette glanced up, and instantly smiled at the sight of Tina rummaging through her purse for her keys. She could even practically imagine the running commentary in Tina’s head as she dug through that purse. The mutterings, the sentiment if and when she found something she’d written down as a reminder.

When Tina looked up, Bette even brightened some more, except Tina looked like a deer caught in headlights. She watched as Tina hesitated, took a deep breath, then continued down the parking lot. Okay, clearly this was not a good time for Tina.

"Hi," Bette greeted, as Tina approached.

"Hi, B," Tina smiled weakly, and gave Bette a light kiss on the lips. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, with Kit and Angus volunteering to take Angelica for the afternoon, I was hoping I could coerce you into coffee, or tea, or maybe some afternoon delight," Bette offered, adding the last for some levity.

Tina looked at her, and loathed herself for not joining in Bette’s good spirits. "Now isn’t really a good time."

    "Bad day?" Bette asked.

"Yes. No." Tina winced. "Um, session."

"Anything I can do to help?"

She wished she didn’t, but something in Tina snapped, and she turned to Bette. "Please, Bette. Stop it."

The famous Kennard moodswing. The first time she’d witnessed it Bette had genuinely been scared witless, and years later it still had the power to confound her. How come she could never read the signs? "T, you can tell me."

Tina winced, and held up her hand to Bette. "No, Bette. Please, just…"

"Please, T, try. Trust me." Bette said quietly.

Tina sighed, and glanced at her, exasperation evident. "Get in the car."

    "What?"

"Get in the car." Tina ordered, opening the door to the driver’s seat, and waited until Bette was in the passenger side.

Bette glanced at her, puzzled, and wondering if she’d made the right decision in getting in the car.

Tina glanced at her, then lowered her gaze. "What have we done to each other the past few years?"

Bette hesitated, not having seen that coming. Candace, she could explain, even justify. Henry, she could deal with. Helena, she could laugh off. But a general Bette and Tina question?

    1. As painfull as it maybe, it needs to be done. Lack of communication is the enemy for this couple. So let them hash it out and GET OVER IT and MOVE ON!!!!

    2. As harsh as it is, they’ve been needing this conversation for a while now. They won’t be able to move forward together until they do. So, let them hash it out at the beach!

    3. Well Tiffduke, you’ve done it again. Another great chapter by you. I Loved it. I rather have B&T screaming, shouting, cursing at eachother, than completely ignoring thier issues. And you know what, when you love somoene, you gotta scream at them sometimes. So i’m enjoying both of them expressing their true feelings. I don’t like things sugarcoated, so i’m all in. I can’t wait till they get to the beach. After the fight, there comes love. Post soon!!

    4. Tiffie…You’re da bomb. Each and every chapter is amazing. Great dialogue, real emotion. Two heavyweights duking it out. And now the beach. Good things always happen for them at the beach. Make up sex after arguments?? Perhaps?? What does tiff_duke mean?

    5. I’m with azmama. Let them get everything out at the beach then fall on the sand and make up. But please let Tina have a blanket in the car. Sand in the crack isn’t very pleasant from what I’ve heard.

    6. This needed to happen. It is the only way that they can really move forward. Tina was finally letting out all of her fears that started with their very beginnings. As mad as this made Bette, Tina had the courage to lay it all on the line. If Bette really listened to Tina she would have realized that Tina was taking most of the blame for the failings of their life together. This was definitely painful but a huge step in the right direction.

    7. Yes talking everything out is important…Tina can’t keep this dance up…it’s not fair to anyone. And yes Kit will string her up if she hurts Bette again and she will have some words for Bette if she hurts Tina too…so on to the beach to duke it out.

    8. I knew it was all going too well. I’m almost speechless at how your writing just keeps getting better and better, especially the way that you write for Tina. Incredible.

    9. Great…great dialogue…and the beach/the water is so healing, I think but then isn’t that where Henry and Tina had their fateful discussion about their spouses etc???? But anywayz, clear the air cause they have to……love your writing.

    10. Gut wrenching and intense, but something that had to be done if they really have a chance of a future together. Tiff, you write so wonderfully well. Thank you.

    11. TD, I know it’s been a while since I’ve commented but trust me, I’ve been reading. I just think the last words spoken by Bette are so true of their entire relationship,”You lead I’ll follow”. Please do keep writing. I’ll be PM-ing you; you need to reveal your writing secret…you’re just too good!

    12. Hey TD, That was tough but necessary. These two really need to clear the air and all of their dirty laundry. It was difficult and old destructive habits returned however they are still talking and communicating their true emotions so there is much to be hopeful for. After all of the hurt and trauma of their past they need time to sort through these issues. I love the way you fabulously capture both their individual and unique points of view. Bring on the beach and let hope a brighter, shared future together. Your writing deals with the reality of their breakup and reconcilliation in an open and honest and refreshing manner. Please continue with this great work. Your Loyal Fan.

    13. wow! tiff, this chapter was just intense. i think bette needs to let down her defenses in order to hear, really hear, what tina is saying. but i guess it is difficult for bette to do so after being hurt by tina. can’t wait to see what’s coming next. please post soon.

    14. Phew, they had a lot to vent. I was particularly struck by T’s comment about the CAC wearing B down and that after a while she just got used to it. I think that is really true, especially when you live with someone who has always been consumed by their work. How do you tell when they are overwhelmed by it, if they don’t tell you themselves? Anyway, I’m happy that Bette didn’t run away.Looking forward to the next chapter – great story!

    15. BTW, I really got some insight from Tina’s confessions. Very perceptive. How unlike the show! (I really need to work on my repetitive resentment. It does no good to dwell on the past, does it???) Serenity NOW!!!

    16. I think they need a death-defying moment (like a near-drowning at the beach) to get them to focus on the important stuff and let the past stay behind them. Something NEEDS to pull focus for them. Tiff, make it so!! Thank you for another chapter in the bewildering go-round that is Bette and Tina. Yes, Tina better watch her a**, Kit Porter has put her on notice! See you at the beach!

    17. maybe i am to harsh but they need to have this talk sometime ago, cause if they not open her heart wiht great feelings and all theirs fears they can’t move on in the relationship! good very very good!

    18. Wow, this is hard, but I guess it’s necessary for them to find out if they are doing the right thing by getting back together. I’m hoping they work it out. Well, only time will tell.

    19. Bleep! Bleep! and double Bleep! excuse the Bleeps! Wow had a few chappies to catch up on and Wow and Wow again you are some writer, you must know that by now. I knew it was to good to be true everything was running along smoothly, the flow had to get interrupted, I just hope that T and B can resolve their problems and move on together. Thanks Tiff.
