    Change – Chapter 25

    Chapter 25

Never in a million years would Bette have thought that seeing a therapist did actually help. She had always been a bit sceptical about it. She had decided to get rid of her prejudices before starting it and that had really worked well. Every week, Shane came to pick her up. They told Kit they were just hanging out. When Bette was talking to Steve, Shane kept herself busy, sometimes bringing Carmen.

Bette had offered to pay Shane for that, but Shane wouldn’t accept the money. She thought that she was supposed to be Bette’s best friends and she couldn’t remember since when best friends charge each other for anything like this.

The weeks went by and Bette still talked to ms Kennard. It was getting harder by the day, though. Tina’s tummy was starting to show, but only to those who knew about the pregnancy. By now, Tina had already told ms Peabody and mr Haspel as well. Her boyfriend, Jesse, had told his best friend. Bette still found it hard to believe that she had known about it before her best friends did. One day, she expressed this wonder, to which Tina declared that Bette had become more than a student to her. Bette’s heart had started beating rapidly, she almost didn’t breathe, but then Tina said she was a friend. She didn’t know if she had the right to feel disappointed – as if she could expect anything from her teacher in this way.

Bette had met Jesse twice already. Apparently, Tina had talked about her because he knew who she was when they were introduced. She hated to admit it, but he was really nice. And in the end, she preferred Tina to be having a baby with this guy than with some arrogant asshole. But that didn’t stop the jealousy from raging through her veins when his hand was on the small of her back, or when he was holding her hand or when he gave her a peck on her lips. She could almost punch him, but controlled herself and smiled a sour smile. She hoped they didn’t notice.

Bette didn’t talk to Steve about her feelings for Tina. It had little to do with the discovery about the true nature of her mother’s death and the two problems were so different, she didn’t see how she’d even squeeze it in. Still, she felt the need to tell someone, anyone at all. Any student was of course excluded. She needed someone older and wiser to tell her what to do. She knew what she had to do, but not how. How could she every forget the woman that completely changed her life from the moment Bette really noticed her true beauty and kindness? How could she get over the person she had been obsessing over for so many months, the person that had taken over her life, her actions, her decisions, her dreams… she was a sucker for Tina Kennard and she knew it.

    3. Hi dear sweet Gen! *waving* Ah, the therapist is working for Bette. Great! She really needed to have a third opinion. Shane has proven to be a good friend. As for telling Ms Peabody about her feelings for Ms Kennard, Hmm We think she did the right thing. She could be more understanding for many reasons. This is getting better, dearest Gen. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks.- Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the loving JC, Eunichick, ZLFAN, T_Daze, Melrose231 and Tias Adoradas to Patpez)

    4. I really feel for Bette. I can’t imagine how you are going to bring them together. Is it going to happen after she graduates from HS, or goes off to college? Thanks for the post genner.

    5. What a tragedy that society and our roles in it would get in the way one way or another. I have been reading your story from the start and I still hope that Bette and Tina will be together in the end. Nonetheless, great story! Thanks for posting. :)

    6. How old is Tina in this story, I’m assuming that Bette is about 17 or 18. Maybe they just need to cool things until Bette graduates and Tina has the baby. Then after that they can move to a more liberal area and Bette go to college and Tina teach somewhere and they can live together. Thanks for posting.
