Dana, Chapter 10
This afternoon with Alice was pleasant and un-stressful. I never realized how stressful it is just hanging out with Tonya. Right now I have to get ready to go out and have a little fun. I havent had any REAL fun since I brought Tonya home from Palm Springs. I walk into my empty hotel room, wishing I could go homemy homewithout having to see herthat vile *****. How could she be engaged to someone and agree to marry me? How? Shes not even *****. Aaahhhgggg! I so wish I had gaydar. Dont think about her anymore tonight Danayoure going out with your friendsyour real friendstheyll help you get back at her. Shell be sorry she ever crossed Dana Fairbanksprofessional *****. I chuckle at the notion. Alice, you are such a hoot. Oh my God! Alice will be here any minute. I rush around the room picking out something to wear. I quickly get dressed and walk outsideshes probably already waiting in the parking lot. I walk outside just in time to see her pull in. Her car drives up to me and I notice Tina in the front seat. I guess its going to be a real girls night out. Tina jumps out of the car and lets me in the back seat. She gets back in and were off. Alice parks a block away from the club and we engage in a walk reminiscent of Charlies Angelswere three women on a mission. I dont know about the other twobut Im getting wasted tonight. We walk inside and scope out the scene.
Lets go find a table, Tina yells. Im more concerned about finding a drink so I just follow the other two. Isnt Shane supposed to come too?
When will Shane be here, I ask Alice.
I didnt know Shane was comingI guess I should have assumed though, huh? Tina comments.
I dont know, Alice says. You know Shaneshell be here when the party really picks up.
I dont know, Tina says, it looks like things are picked up already. I could use a drinkwhat can I get you two?
Surprise me, Alice tells her.
Ill take a triple Tequila shot, I put in my request. Thatll be a good start. Oh, and a beer to chase it down, we cant forget something to wash down that Tequila.
Ill be right back, Tina says before walking away. While waiting for my first drink of what I hope is a very long night, I gaze around the room. Couples are enjoying the music on the dance floor and theres a crowd gathered around the DJs bootheveryone wants to get their requests in early.
Here you go, Tina says setting our drinks on the table. As Tina and Alice start talking, I concentrate on my shot; downing it with precision I chase it with half my beer. I redirect my attention back to the others just in time to see Tina walk off with a brunette. I need another Tequila. I flag down a waitress and tell her my ordera triple Tequila shot and a beer chaser. Ill be done with this first beer by the time she gets back.
Just as I finish my third round of drinks, Shane walks up. Hi Shane. How are you?
Im okay Dana, she says, taking a seat next to me. How many drinks have you had?
Just a couple, I tell herI can hear my words starting to slur. Why did that happen? I havent had enough to drink to cause that. Come to think of itmy head is spinning a little.
