    Darkside ch 13

    Darkside 13

Tina walked into her office aware of every sound every smell. She even noticed what the air had tasted like. All of her senses were heightened. The past 3 weeks had been almost surreal and getting back into the routine of her life had been much harder than she had expected.

She was happy to be back but she felt something missing. She found herself wondering about Avery and how she was and what she was doing, but mostly she though of Bette.

“Tina there is someone waiting for you in your office.” Crystal, her assistant, said as she walked past her.

“Who? I don’t have anything scheduled for today.” Tina asked.

“She wouldn’t give her name. She just said she would wait for you in your office.”  She said.

Tina walked into her office and instantly recognized the woman as an Ancient. She hadn’t meet her before but she was oddly familiar.

“It’s okay Crystal. I’ll be in a meeting for a while. I am not to be disturbed.” Crystal nodded and backed out of the office closing the door behind her.

“You need to be on the Island with Avery.” The woman said.

“Hold it. First who are you?” Tina demanded.

“My name is unimportant. My message is critical. A blessed child from two worlds who will personify the Great Father and Great Mother. They will usher until the world a great transmogrification.” The woman handed Tina an old wooden box and then dissipated.

Tina sat the box down on her desk. She ran her fingers along the engravings. She recognized one of the symbols, an ancient rune on the box. Avery had the same mark on the back of her neck.

She slowly opened the box. What was in the box blew her away.

    “Avery!” Bette called.

The girl sat on a dune on the beach. The girl looked back at her mother. Bette walked towards her.  Tears ran down her face.

    “What’s the matter?” Bette asked.

“Nothing. I’m fine.” Avery answered. Bette sat next to her.

“Things haven’t been fine for a long time. Partly it’s my fault and I’m sorry. I know you still blame yourself for Ma and my breakup. What happened between us had nothing to do with you. You do know that don’t you.” Bette wrapped her arm around her.
