Destiny in a Mechanics shop (Pt 17) First date
***”Tina Kennard can you ever forgive me?” Bette shouted.
Tina blushed at Bette. Looking quickly at her hands then back at Bette.
“It’ll cost ya.” She replied.
Bette got up from her knees, never taking her eyes off of her beautiful Juliet. “And what would that be?”
“Dinner” was all that came in reply. ****
“Well how does tonight sound? My treat.” Bette shouted to Tina.
“Sounds like a plan, pick me up at 7?”
“7 it is.”
Bette got off of her knees and started to walk back to her car, when she heard an “aherm.” to which she turned around to find a very puffed out Tina.
Tina braced herself on her knees, sucking in as much air as her lungs could consume. “Bette.” was all she could get out.
“Yes Tina.” was Bette’s reply.
“What should I wear?”
Bette stood there for a moment, contemplating her response. “Something comfortable.”
Bette started to walk way, yet she stopped and turned around, a playful smirk on her face. “Or you could wear THAT tonight.”
Tina was totally caught up in the moment that she forgot that she was only wearing a pair of boxer shorts and a white tank top. Tina scooped her hair back from her face, as she looked at her attire and blushed. Looking back at Bette she replied. “I’ll take that into consideration.” Winking once at Bette then turning around to walk back to her apartment.
***A FEW HOURS LATER***
Tina contemplated the clothes she was wearing. ‘What the ***** do I wear?’ her mind questioned. She chose a cool and sleek look, tight ripped jeans and a black halter neck top. Yet she still didn’t feel like it was enough for Bette, She needed something more, yet she didn’t know what. While Tina stood there and contemplated her fashion dilemma she didn’t notice her doorbell ringing.
“Uhm hello” Bette shouted into the door.”
The voice at the front door suddenly grabbed Tina’s attention. She ran down the hall halfway and then slid the rest of the way with her socks. She swung the door open hastily and found the most beautiful masterpiece standing there. Bette was wearing some tight faded blue jeans and a brown army shirt, to which the three top buttons where undone, showing Bette’s tight clad ***** and olive skin.
Tina stood staring at Bette for a minute, forgetting that time existed. Focussing on Bette’s cleavage. They stood like this for what seemed like hours, until Bette waved a hand in front of Tina’s face, bringing her back into reality.
“You ready to go?” Bette questioned as she casually walked through the door.
Tina still a little shocked couldn’t really get a sentence out. The most that she could get out was. “Need…shoes and….Keys.” pointing to the direction of her bedroom.
“Ok then…well I’ll just sit here until you get them then.” Bette placed herself on Tina’s couch.
Tina was still staring at Bette, her mouth opened wide. Still not quite with it.
“Uh Tina…Your keys and shoes.”
“what?. Oh right.khoes…. seys…”
Bette giggled. It took Tina a little time to figure out what she had just said. Shaking her head slightly.
“I mean shoes and keys.” Tina then dawdled down the hall to her bedroom to grab her needed items.
Coming back ten minutes later, Tina found Bette flicking through one of her old Cosmopolitans; She never noticed that Tina had come back into the room.
“Aherm.”
Bette jolted a little, closing the magazine quickly, the proceeded to look up and smile at Tina. “Ready?”
“Yup lets go.”
Both women walked towards the door. Bette got there first and opened it politely for Tina. “mad am.”
Tina looked into Bette’s eyes, finding something sparkling there…She didn’t know what it was, but it gave Bette a sweeter glow then she had before.
Once they got outside, Bette grabbed for Tina’s hand and stopping her dead. Tugging slightly so that Tina would turn around. Bette pulled a black silk scarf from her back pocket, bringing it to Tina’s eyes and saying “you have to wear this…I want it to be a surprise.”
Tina did as she was told. The scarf being wrapped around her eyes so that she couldn’t see anything.
*****
The drive was sweet. Tina sat back and relaxed into the old leather seats of Bette’s Volvo. The only two things she could sense around her was the car radio and Bette by her side and it oddly felt comfortable that way.
20 minutes later and they were at their destination. Bette helped Tina out of her car and walked them a few paces.
“Okay you can take off the blind fold now.” Bette whispered
Tina unwrapped the blindfold, her eyes taking a little time to adjust to the light. She rubbed her eyes quickly, and then looked straight ahead. A trail of rose scented candles lead to the top of the hill. Tina was in awe; she couldn’t believe that all of this was for her. She started to walk the lightened path to the top of the hill. Taking in every bit of scenery that she could have. Closing her eyes as she walked she took in the smells and sounds, so that they could be captured in her heart and in her mind for as long as she lived. She stopped halfway and turned to find that Bette hadn’t moved.
“You did this all for me?” Tina’s eyes were glazed over with tears.
“Yes.” Bette started to walk towards Tina; she took her hand and looked at her palm, then back into Tinas eyes. “I wanted our first date to be special.” Bette wiped a tear from Tina’s warm cheek, then took her hand and led her the rest of the way up the hill. The candles ended at the hilltop, for there was no need for them…The hilltop over looked the city. The bright lights luminated the hill, just enough to see the things that Bette wanted Tina to see. Tina gasped at the surprise, she felt happy and loved and all these other emotions all at once. She didn’t know what to say, she stood there, one hand over her mouth and one hand clasped to Bette’s.
Tina turned slightly to see Bette’s reaction. She couldn’t help but stare at Bette’s perfect lips, how soft they were last time she placed her own on them. She smiled and wiped away another tear that had fallen onto her cheek.
Bette tugged at Tina’s hand, making her turn to look into Bette’s eyes.
“Why did you do this for me?…You hardly know me.” Tina giggled.
Bette took Tina’s other hand, grasping it lightly, appreciatively stroking both of them with her thumbs. Bette took a deep breath, she then looked straight into Tinas eyes. “From the moment I met you Ms Tina Kennard I knew that we had some type of bond…I didn’t know what it was then, but now I do and I want to show you through this first date that I understand why you came into my life…And I want you to stay in my life. Yes this is a real official first date, but it feels like Ive known you since I was little…Through the small conversation that we had at my house that night…There was something that sparkled in you, that you passed onto me…When I was with Alice, that sparkle wasnt there and I missed that…I missed you.”
Bette took one of Tina’s hands and brought it to her lips, kissing her palm gently. “I want to show you the world…I want you to be my world…I know you haven’t been with a woman, But I want to show you that its OKAY to be with a woman and yes some people may judge us, but you also have to know that there is a community of lesbians, Bisexuals. that will always be at your side, to help you and guide you with the hard times….”
Bette then took Tina’s other hand and kissed her other palm lightly. “And last but not least, there’s me to help you…Tina, I want this relationship to work…Maybe bloom into something more. However if it doesn’t, I would still be honoured just to be your friend.”
Tina never took her eyes off of Bette, she understood every word that Bette said and even though she was scared as ***** inside, she knew that she had to at least try this relationship otherwise she would regret it… She loved that Bette was being so honest with her. And she loved that fact that Bette didn’t go to super extremes with there first date. She felt safe and thats all she wanted right now…. As Tina over looked the streets of L.A. she knew in her heart that this first date was going to be a memorable one….
