“No. Alice, I have never doubted that. You have never given me a reason so doubt that.”
“Ok, so I am supposed to be confused, right? If you don’t doubt that I love you, then what the hell are you scared of?”
“I’m scared of it going away.” Dana said quite simply.
“So you forced it to go away? How is that supposed to make sense?”
“I never said it did. It’s just the truth.”
“You love me so much that you don’t want to lose me. You know that I love you but are scared that it will go away. That combination makes you decide it’s a smart thing to hook up with your trainer. Do I have this right?”
“Yes, but you’re taking my words too literally. Al, I didn’t decide to hook up with Michelle, it just sort of happened.”
“What, did you trip?”
“No. Alice I don’t know how to make you understand this. That night in Seattle, was a bad one. I had just been beaten in a tournament by much younger player.”
“Dane, you’ve lost matches before. I don’t think this is your normal consolation prize, at least I hope not.”
“You don’t get it. Al, I didn’t lose because she was a better player or because I wasn’t having my best game. I lost because she was younger. She just had the energy to play all three sets and by the middle of the third I was done. Al, I’m at the end of my career. I have been for a while, but haven’t been ready to admit it to myself.”
She stood and started to pace as she continued, “But now I have to face it. I had a good career. I did pretty well. I was tops of the women’s game for a couple of years, but that’s done now. I have to face it. This girl who beat me isn’t that good. I’m a better player, she just had youth on her side. That night, sitting in the bar it dawned on me. This is my last year on the circuit. I don’t want to embarrass myself and play past my prime. When that dawned on me, I was lost and Michelle was there wanting me.”

I do! I do! Gold star to me! Great update. Worth the wait. ;-D Love Shane’s description of the framily. So accurate. Glad the stalker was caught — I hope that is the end of her. I understand Alice needing time, but, I hope she and Dana talk soon. Thanks so much for continuing this, lucia!!
Hooray! I can’t believe my eyes when I saw the post. A big THANK YOU to you and Capesquad. I thought I would never have the opportunity to tell you that I love Cara and that Julia was a great character added. I read the story at least 3 times always thinking that I might have missed some clues to why D was so apprehensive telling A the truth to begin with. They would have avoided all the unnecessary tears and heartaches. Then again we would not have this fantastic story. I believe this has to be one of the best crazy fan story. I second what MaGoose said. Furthermore, I think the separation is called for. D must do some soul searching. What if there was another temptation and another crazy fan. I am sure Yoda would be there for her in A’s absence. Conveniently, T would be there to talk things over with A. Perfect scenerio. Thank you again Lucia. You have no idea how happy I am right now.
You just made my week. I love this story, so glad you’re continuing with it!
lucia – of course i remember this. when this first came out i was obsessed. i printed out the first chapters and would read them over and over again. i was obsessed. i had given up hope, but i am so glad you are continuing. this was a great chapter i am excited to see what lies ahead. i don’t mind how you wrapped up the stalker, to me this was always more of a love story that a mystery. can’t wait for more and thank you so much.
Cid!! so obviously i was happy to see you posted an update. (did you feel YOU had a stalker?) i found this way too late last night (this morning) and read it anyway- couldn’t help myself. Loved it then, loved it better sober! : )i liked how you handled the ‘disposal’ of the stalker- she’s always been outside the picture- try asshe might- she doesn’t even get the satisfaction of a dramatic confrontation. Alice needs to think about Dana without having to worry about her at the same time clouding the issues. I look forwardto hearing both her AND Tina vent… i look forward to all of it! Thank you for this.
i remember!!!! nice to see you back this is a great story and im glad your continuing with it. :) pps
i’ll admit, i was at first enticed by the gold star prize *grin* just kidding, i’ve been in and out of your stories, so this might be my first comment. this was really good…i love dalice/alna and so on in your take on things. workin’ through the insecurities and all. and friendships saving the day, great:) pps
