Thats because shes speaking French, a female voice said from behind him. She said shes in a hospital and would you please stop shining that light in her eyes.
At the sound of the voice, Marina tried to turn her head to look at the person that had spoken. Cecilia, she said softly and attempted to smile. Cecilia dropped her bag in a chair and walked to Marinas bedside as Melissa and Gwen hung back in the doorway.
Im here baby Cecilias eyes began to tear up as she looked at Marinas bruised face. Her lip and an eye were swollen and a bruise extended from her temple to the corner of her mouth. They had shaved some of her hair off and you could see the various stitches on her scalp. Im not going anywhere again at least not without you with me! Cecilia whispered vehemently as she lifted one of Marinas hands to her lips. She smiled when she felt a slight squeeze in return.
Im sorry, visiting hours were over thirty minutes ago, you can come back the doctor began to say.
Are you her physician? Melissa quickly asked from the doorway. The man turned around to look at her.
Yes I am.
Then could I speak to you in the hall for a moment?
Of course go ahead and check her blood pressure in both arms and Ill be right back. The doctor walked out with Melissa and the nurse did as she was told; being very gentle with Marinas right arm. Gwen came to stand beside Cecilia and placed a hand on her shoulder for comfort. Marina kept her eyes on Cecilia the whole time as if she were afraid that closing them would make Cecilia disappear.
Your pressure is good I think youre gonna be just fine, the nurse said in a pleasant voice when she had finished.
Cecilia reached out and let her fingertips brush Marinas cheek that wasnt bruised. Marina tried to raise her right arm to touch the hand on her face, but winced in pain before it was half way to its destination.
Easy there itll be a while before you use that arm again, the nurse said looking at Marina with an empathetic smile.

What a tender and loving chapter. We all should say Thank-yous to our friends. Sometimes we just for get how important they are to us. Yes I dido what seahurst mentioned that Marina could find someone better in her life. I just felt that Marina had some bad history and has insecurity issues, so she would go after the ones she knew would be easily taken with her beauty and her accent. Excellent chapter, it is one that I look for when I have time to read them.
