Finding May Way Back To You Chapter 16
Carmen thought about the question and this time, considered the real possibility of being Shane’s legal partner.
"Yes! I would love to be your wife – someday!" Carmen explained and sprung to her feet, bringing Shane up with her.
They embraced for what seemed like hours.
Two days later ….
Shane had just come from checking the mail. Carmen was gone to the Planet to speak with Kit about an upcoming gig.
One piece of mail stuck out to Shane like a sore thumb, seeing as how it was addressed from a place that she had chosen to forget about.
The return address screamed out to her: Gabriel McCutcheon.
Shane closed the door behind her, and went to the bedroom, placing the other mail on the kitchen counter.
Her hands started trembling. She hesitated before opening the letter. What am I doing? Why am I so nervous? Shane took a deep breath, let it out, and tore into the letter.
Shane:
As you can see, I am back home. After you were discharged from the hospital, I stuck around for a few days, trying to think of what I could say to you. Then it occurred to me, that I couldn’t say anything to make this situation better. What can I say now? I messed up. The night of your wedding, I was only thinking of myself. As I always do. I’ve never been a really good father. I think I’m doing the right things, saying the right things, but it always ends up coming out wrong. I never meant to hurt you. Please believe that. Carmen is a wonderful woman. You deserve someone who will make you happy, and I could see that in your eyes. A part of me was jealous of you. Yes, jealous. You were determined to make it work with Carmen. You were determined to be a good person in spite of how you were brought up. Looking at me, I was the worst example on how to treat the ones you love. I don’t know what else to say except that I’m sorry. And that I hope you don’t turn out like me. I want better for you. What I said in the bar that night, it wasn’t true. You don’t have to be like me. You have a lot of love in you Shane, don’t throw away the opportunity to be happy. Don’t turn out like your old man – going from woman to woman, disregarding people’s feelings. Be better than me. I wish you all the best. I hope you are well. And one of these days, I hope you can forgive me.
