    FIrst, Last, & Forever? (Version 2.0 – Chapter 14)

    CHAPTER 14

As Tina held Bette, continuing to watch her sleep, her thoughts involuntarily returned to the day before she was discharged from the hospital.  She had been out of her room for more tests, and when she returned, Bette was there, staring out the window, looking more serious than Tina could ever recall.  Without turning from the window, Bette began to speak.

“Tee, we need to talk.”  Those dreaded words.  For a moment, Tina felt her stomach drop, half expecting Bette to tell her she didn’t want her to come home, or that there was someone else, or something else that was going to again shatter everything that Tina had worked so hard to have back in her life.  Bette seemed able to sense Tina’s concerns immediately.

“I want you to come home more than anything, but I need for us to talk about That Night, what happened before you left me.  Is that okay, Tee?”  Tina wasn’t sure she was ready to deal with that night, with the consequences of both of their actions, but knew it had to be done.  She settled herself into a chair, and slowly nodded.

“It’s okay.  You’re right, we do need to talk about it.”  Tina closed her eyes and took in a deep breath.  Bette continued to stare out the window, unable to meet Tina’s eyes.  She spoke quickly, words tumbling out of her as she tried to explain the inexplicable.

“Tina, I am sorry for what I did to you that night.  I can’t believe I could have hurt you, and if I’d known about the baby…god, I could have hurt our sweet little angel.”  Bette paused, taking a deep breath while trying to fight back the tears now welling up in her dark brown eyes.  “I know it’s no excuse, but I thought that if I could just get you to listen to me, if I kept telling you I loved you, if we made love, that everything would be okay.  But that didn’t make it okay for me to try to force myself on you, Tina.  If I could take that moment back for both of us, I would.  I’m so sorry.  Our bed was the one place you should always be able to feel safe.  Have I ruined that for you, for us?”

    1. God you’re good. I must admit I’ve never been able to actually watch the entire scene… But I’m workin on it. I’ve just watched the Henry/Tina scenes from season 3. Next step is this one.

    2. Once again, what I love the most is your ability to fill SO many gaps that were left by IC. Everyone has differing opinions on that “bedroom scene” and you really put a wonderful twist on it, and the ideas you brought to life with your talent is amazing. Thanks Steph, and as long as we get a post from you, I don’t care what story it is!! Thanks again. Have a great weekend.

    3. That scene has been discussed so much, and I am not fully convinced that Bette was forcing herself onto Tina. She clearly was trying to control Tina, though, and Tina wrested some of that control back. It was a painful, sad and angry moment–so powerful! One couldn’t watch it and not be moved somehow. Though I don’t agree 100% with your interpretation here, I do love the fact that they were able to talk about their feelings instead of keeping them–the thing I believe led to their destruction. And though the conversation was much delayed, it was needed even more! Thanks for filling that gap so well! Where’s the next chappy?

    4. You have written and reposted again, what we all hoped at the time would happen. You post and we will read, theones that missed this the first time should be thrilled to be able to read this. Thanks

    5. Steph, once again youo have done a wonderful job of telling their story as it should have happened and as we wanted it to happen. They should have been able to talk about that night and come to grips with it but alas, IC did not ssee that. So happy that you did. PPS
