    Fever

    The reception went on until almost two am. It was the best party that anyone had been to in quite some time.  It wasn’t like the usual stuffy receptions the food was excellent, the band versatile and a DJ that burned when the band was on break. 

     

    The plan had been for the reception to take place from six to eleven when the band would stop playing and the service people off the clock.  At eleven the crowd was grooving to the music and the band requested to play on at their own expense.  The service staff likewise was having a nice time and stayed to enjoy the party and continued to ensure that guests were taken care of.  

     

    Tina smiled as she overheard a group of younger lesbians lament the fact that the elusive Bette Porter was off the market once and for all.  They had not known the legendary Bette and Tina of years back but watching them today gave them hope for such a love for their own.  Spying her one of the women blushed.

     

    “Tina, it was a lovely ceremony, congratulations” she spoke with sincerity. 

     

    “Thank you Karen?” Tina vaguely remembered that she was an up and coming art dealer that Bette mentored from time to time. 

     

    “Yes” the brown haired young woman blushed again with pleasure that Tina had remembered her name.

     

    Bette suddenly appeared at her side.  “What are you saying to my wife, Karen?  I’ll have you know that she is happily married.” Bette said in her sternest voice though the joy that she experienced calling Tina her wife was evident in the way her voice softened as she took Tina’s hand. 

     

    “Karen and her friends were lamenting the fact that you are no longer on the market.” Tina watched Bette and smiled smugly.

     

    Karen looked like she wanted to disappear into the ground.  She had hoped that Tina had not overheard their discussion.

     

    “Oh” Bette was taken aback at this disclosure.  “So you did not tell them I haven’t been free since I met you?”

     

    “And crush hope? Never.” Tina laughed “Perhaps I should change your tag to ‘sold’”
