Alice stood and offered her hand to Dana to help her up.  Slowly they walked together to the living room where Alice made sure Dana was comfortable on the couch before going to the kitchen to make dinner.  “Al, please tell me you are not going to try to cook Thanksgiving dinner by yourself.” 

Alice smiled at Dana’s comment as she turned on the oven and opened the freezer.  “Don’t worry, I promise I have everything under control.”  Dana couldn’t help but worry.  Ten minutes later Alice returned to the living room with a tray of food and sat it down on the coffee table.  Dana looked at the tray and laughed.  “What is this?” 

“Thanksgiving dinner.”  Alice said shyly as she handed Dana her plate.  “I had a feeling yesterday that we would not be going to The Planet for dinner today.  So when I talked to Shane yesterday about picking up your medicine I asked her to stop at the store and get two turkey and stuffing TV dinners.  I figured it was the only safe way for me to cook Thanksgiving dinner.  Besides, you seemed happy with it the first Thanksgiving we had together.”

Dana smiled at Alice and took a bite of food.  “It’s perfect.”

Alice and Dana spent the next few hours happily sitting on the couch together watching the parade, laughing and commenting about the various floats and celebrities on TV.  When the parade was over, Alice could see the dark circles forming under Dana’s eyes and suggested continuing their holiday in Dana’s room.  She hoped that Dana would fall asleep shortly and get some rest and feel better in the morning.  Though Dana was beginning to look and feel better Alice knew she was still weak and hoped Dr. Kelly would not want to admit her in the morning.

 Dana’s smiled as she watched Alice finish cleaning the living room.  “I’m sorry for this afternoon.  I know we decided to make today a tradition on that first Thanksgiving, but I didn’t realize I was why you always looked forward to it.  I thought you loved spending the day with everyone.”

Alice stood in front of Dana and gently lifted her to her feet wrapping her into a big hug.  “Well you are my best friend and I never could figure out a way to say ‘I am thankful every year that I get to spend Thanksgiving with you because I am in love with you and want to spend all of my time with you.’” 

Dana smiled and hugged Alice tight.  “You just did.”
