    Chapter 12 – Weaving Threads

Jackie had finally had the chance to look up and around at the gathering of women that would be her audience for this symposium. It was quite a large turn out, more than she had anticipated. It was at these times just before Jackie was to interact with a large group that she had her stage fright butterflies. This uneasiness always hit her when she was before large groups. One on one was Jackies favorite encounter. In large groups like this it is hard to express that personal touch that would allow her message to hit home so much more effectively. The whole presentation needed to be more canned and didnt allow for the individual personalization that gave her message more of a punch. Well since this whole venture was brought about through the actions of one Bette Porter, Jackie only felt it appropriate that she tailor her message and personalize it to Bettes benefactor, Tina Kennard.

Jackie just had time to take a couple of deep breaths while she was being introduced by the President of the Southern California Career Woman Network, as the President finished there is a polite applause as Jackie gets up and approaches the podium.

Thank you all for being here today and inviting me to speak. I want to start out by sharing with all of you a little about myself so as to give you a better idea of where I am coming from. Well those of you, who know me, know that its pretty amazing for me to even be out here in sunny California. After having spent my entire life on the east coast, Ive been told the Atlantic Ocean is in my blood. I have spent my entire life east of the Mississippi, being born in Maine. I then spent my undergrad and graduate years at Yale and it is through those networks that I find myself in LA today and the new Director of The Motif Yen Valor Foundation. It has been my experience in life that those little threads that you reel in, the little encounters with people and the impressions you leave behind are the strands that build a successful career. Well in my case, this has been the thread that weaves through my entire career for it seems to have been the case for most of the significant advancements in my life either personal or professional. .

    1. I like how you wrote the difference in view of the meeting by Alice and Tina. I’ve always thought Tina knew Bette more than Alice, but looks like Alice may know another side of Bette that Tina may not or don’t want to know of.
I agree with angelak, I hope Tina does not get upset at Bette for ‘controlling’ the situation.
Can’t wait to see how you play this out.
Thanks for this chapter….and will it be wistful thinking that I’ll get to read another after my work day?

    2. I like the two different point’s of view in this chapter, Alice’s suspsion is funny and realistic, as well as Tina’s enthusiasm. Great storytelling.

    3. Thanks for the Jackie and Grace characters….genuine people….caring and helping with no hidden agendas….right there with (and for) Tina…GREAT! It’s all about the people who grace your life! Poor Alice….will she ever get it???

    4. I am so intrigued by this plot…I so hope that Tina doesn’t find out that Bette is behind this since she’ll probably misconstrue it as a form of controlling behavior. Can’t wait to see what happens next!
