    Chapter 28 – Adventures in Baby-sitting Bette Style

    Seriously Tina you are only a cell phone call away. Go youre going to be late. Bette insisted as she shooed Tina out the door. Bette and Anna wave at Tina as she pulls out of the driveway and down the street. Turning to close the door Well kid its you and me for the evening. Bette says to Anna.

    As Bette comes back into the house, Irene looks up What can I do to help you? Irene asks as she wants to make sure that Anna is OK.

    Well I think I have everything down. I was thinking that I would feed Anna in about an hour and then see where the evening takes us from there. Her temperature seems to be OK shes not real hot. When are you leaving? Bette says as she is sizing up her situation and what she needs to do for Anna.

    I have a little time before I need to leave. Irene says as she takes a seat across from Bette.

    Bette takes this time to talk to Irene trying to get to know her better. Well Irene how is everything playing out for so far. Are you homesick yet?

    With that last part Irene just looks to Bette and laughs You make it sound like I have never left home before. Well actually I havent but Tina has been so exceptionally nice to me I feel like I have a new family here. Dont get me wrong I miss my family but so far being here has been great. Irene eagerly passes on to Bette.

    I understand what you mean when you say that Tina is the best, she really does have a heart that big. Bette says. So Irene what made you wants to come to the US to begin with? Bette says as she sits down by the pool in the shade with Anna.

    Irene following Bette outside sits down next to her. I have a distant cousin who came to America when I was younger. When he returned, all he could talk about was how wonderful everything over here was. The States just sounded so exciting the big stores, the cars that everyone has, and well just how big everything is here. Well that put the idea in my head and I have had this desire every since. The au pair thing is just like a dream come true as I have training to be a teacher for kindergarteners. Granted Anna is a little younger than my future students will be but it just seems like such a good fit.

Jwet…i can’t tell you how much i love this story….You have really captured the new and amazing connection that exists between a mother and her daughter…..Is that what Bette considers herself to be Anna’s other mom??     17. Maybe Anna’s all colicky because Bette didn’t burp her after the bottle. Well done…even if you didn’t put B&T in the big people bed. (yes they’d be closer in the crib, but it’d be less safe for Anna.)

    20. This chapter was sweet, and adorable. I’m happy for Bette that she was able to spend that time alone with the baby…and it reminded me why I chose to not have children! :)

    21. Yep, I had the same experience while babysitting, but I wigged out and called the parents. Kudos to Bette for hangin’ in there. She’s going to be a great mommy.

    25. First, great chapter and so real. Babies are such hard work and it is great to see someone is writing about the real life experiences. I love seeing Bette,CAC director feeling out of control some with a little baby.
