Great Unexpectations Chapter 23
Previously…
Bette gasped. "Mmm", Tina agreed. "This is nice. We should play hooky every day."
"That would be nice. Or, as a Plan B, we could keep on paying the bills and not lose the house", Bette countered.
"True. Hmm…", Tina moaned. "Are you hungry?"
"Well, I was. But right now, there’s only one thing I want."
"Mmm. Let me guess."
"If you have to guess T, I’m not doing this right", Bette said, bringing Tina closer and breathing warmly into her ear.
Tina’s skin burned with desire. She breathed heavily. "Oh fuck. You’re definitely doing it right. Come on." Tina led Bette to the bedroom, leaving the roast to fend for itself. It’s only company a slowly melting ice cube left on the floor.
Chapter 23.
Later that night, after the roast had been tasted, after the melted ice cleaned up, after Angie had been safely tucked back into bed there was silence. The happy silence of two lovers lying in bed next to each other. The blissful silence of the satisfied. The silence that finds itself in a room with so much to say, but knowing those things need not be spoken. The silence. Holding each other. Loving each other. Hearts still racing, but slowing to their natural state. Soft kisses. No motivation behind them. Kissing just because. Drifting off to sleep. Tender sleep that was surprisingly free of the expected dreams. Although there were no dreams, there was an unidentifiable process occurring. A task manager, of sorts, buried in the subconsciousness of every person ’s gray matter. A way of sorting through things in sleep that seem unmanageable during waking hours. The inner self’s way of saying, ‘Don’t sweat it. I got this one." It had it’s work cut out for it on this night. Processing all of the information about Faye and Cora and Faye’s request. Request was not exactly the correct word. Heartbreaking plea was more fitting. The last possible solace of a dying woman. A woman who had inflicted great pain in her past.
Bette’s inner self took her back to her childhood. Back to the days of going to church with Melvin and Kit. A particular sermon given about enemies. "How would God want us to treat our enemies?", the preacher asked loudly. Paraphrased verses from Luke, Matthew, and Proverbs flowed passionately from his lips. "Love them. Do not rejoice when your enemy faces hardship. Treat them honorably. Do you think you are holy or deserve credit for loving only those who love you? Even the godless do that! What is so gracious about doing good only for those who do you good!! Sinners do as much. Love your enemies!! Do good to them." Do good to them.

When does the other shoe drop?
Red, honey, you are doing a fabulous job with this story. With the last bit of info from Faye it makes me a bit leary for the girls and Angie. That bastard would stop at nothing to stop anyone from doing anything to help Faye and Cora. However, he does need to be exposed and arrested. This is a mighty subject now with the possibility that the girls could be hurt. We don’t want that, now do we. Politics makes strange bedfellows has never been more true. PPS
WOW!!!! I do hope that nothing happens to B&T and there family. Thanks PPS
I’m glad they’re helping Faye and all, but still, I worry. B&T are ace, and so is this story. And lol @ the potpourri! I got that for Christmas once. It’s amazing how well I was able to fake that grateful smile. (Though I’m sure the 2 or so glasses of wine I had with Christmas lunch helped immensely.) I still have that potpourri, it sits, unused, on a closet shelf. One day, I’m sure I’ll have a potpourri-based emergency, and then…! That grateful smile will be real! Ah well, I’ll keep reaching for that particular star. I will say though that I am honestly grateful for your post, red, cos I love this story. Post soon, and thanks!
Mostly loved the morning scene. The Bette and Tina goodness..and playing with their little girl. Hope this Faye recon mission won’t be too taxing on their relationship and family life.. PPS.
I loved the morning scene too. As you (so beautifully) write them, Tina is truly the yin to Bette’s yang. Like others, I’m worried that the morally bankrupt would-be senator will screw things up for them.
Let’s rock and roll!
Expertly written; I stand in awe of your skill with the English language. Plz keep B, T and Angie safe. PPS
Scary and dangerous coming!
Well this has the possibilities of a great big mess. Lot’s of drama ahead. Love how the story is moving along. Hope Richard has his own “cleaners” available. Thanks for the post.
This is getting a little scary! B&T are so in tune with each other. I love it! PPS!!
Your writing is so descriptive that it captures me and helps me to visualize the scene. Brilliant. B & T are going to love their enemy, huh? That is such a strong verse from the bible and one that is difficult to abide by. I hope that they will be successful in their attempt to help Cora. In doing so, they need to keep their family safe and Mr. Buckley sounds like a sleaze. Any father that would put their own best interest before their own child is **and I quote*** “An obstacle that needs to be removed.” Make sure he is dealt with, will ya Red? PS.
