    Great Unexpectations Chapter 32

    Previously…

She leaned close to Faye and whispered. "I have news, Faye. We’ve found her. She just called me. She saw one of our posters. She’s here Faye. We’ve found her." Tina, standing behind Bette, placed her warm hands on Bette’s shoulders and bowed her head. Richard, still looking out the window, took one hand from his pocket and held it to his face. A tiny spark of light illuminated Faye’s eyes. "Cora?", she said weakly. Bette nodded and wiped a tear from her eye. "She’s here, Faye. And she’s on her way. She wanted me to tell you that she loves you. She loves you, Faye, and she wants to come home. Ok? So you have to hold on. She’s coming."

"She’s coming home", Faye repeated faintly. Another tear streamed down her face.

"Thank you Bette. Thank you." Faye’s frail hand barely registered a squeeze on Bette’s but it was all of the strength she had to offer. She smiled. Her final smile. "Thank you." Bette gathered all of her strength and returned the smile. It was the last thing Faye ever saw. The monitor that Faye was hooked up to began to beep and finally sounded with the long tone. The flat line. Faye’s opened eyes stared at Bette, a hint of her smile still showing. The nurse quickly entered the room to attend to the monitor. Bette leaned back to allow her room to examine Faye. She remained numbly in her seat while the nurse put her hand over Faye’s eyes and closed the lids. The nurse turned off the monitor, quietly extended her condolences, and left the room as quickly as she’d entered. Bette, thankful to be seated, noticed white spots in her vision and wondered if Tina saw them also. Tina, who’d never let her hands drop from Bette’s shoulders began to feel her lover’s body go limp. She held on while Bette fainted, not letting her fall out of the chair. And wept.

    Chapter 32.

The sun shone through the windows of the sedan, mocking them in their sorrow, as Richard numbly navigated the streets to Bette and Tina’s rented beach house. Bette spied the bay side bench, the site of Faye’s last laugh, and had to avert her eyes. It was out of sight soon enough. The car pulled smoothly into the driveway. Richard made no gallant attempt to open their door, and they did not wait for one. Before they exited the car Richard removed a business card from his jacket pocket and gave it to Bette. Bette handed it off to Tina. "He needs to be called. Mrs. B’s instructions. He’s going to handle all of the…", he choked down the last word. "…arrangements." Tina read the card, saw the name "Jenkins" and rolled her eyes. The last person in the world Bette needed to be talking to today was that surly lawyer. "I’ll take care of it", Tina said.

    3. I didn’t care for Faye in the begining either, but was saddened to see her go. I hope Bette and Tina find her daughter before it is too late and she is able to trust them to help her get back on solid ground and leave the life she is living now. PPS and Merry Christmas.

    4. First, let me say to everyone, have a very Merry christmas and a Happy New Year. Second, the woman in the Dove commercial just at the end of the story is absolutely gorgeous. Now for the story, Jeeprs, did you have to stop at that point? That is so wrong. I loved that Bette did not want Tina to stop asking. Love the story. sorry to see Faye go, at first I would not have cared but, this has helped to bring our girls closer.

    5. It had a properly sad beginning, but I like the tease of happiness at the end. I think the Faye you have in this story would appreciate it. I hope they find Cora soon.

    6. I was happy to see a new post from you and then life got really busy with family. I finally was able to read it and jumped for joy. Loved how Tina was there for Bette when she slowly lost control. I also loved how Bette knew that every night Tina would ask her to marry her.

    7. Great chapter redhorse. I love the way you have Bette and Tina sgaring their feelings and turning to one another for support. God I hope I.C. sees the light of day and has them talking like this in S5. Bring on that next update you tease!

    8. Huh…&#@#ç&%@è#&$ù£%£…Bllrrgggkkklll…DUH! Hmmm.. yep! That’s pretty much what this little ending did to me!!! Well done… Very well done!!! So romantic and in line with the characters in your story… IC, read and learn!… But will Cora be found? Stay tuned…

    9. Absolutely perfect, red! This was a nice Christmas present. Love that Bette’s been hearing the proposals all along, so sweet. I think I also gasped, “oh God yes” when Bette asked if Tina was going to say it. Hope you have a happy and safe New Year!
