    Heartbeat – Chapter 4

    Previously…

    Tina escorted Andrea down the corridor aware of the stares they were getting. When they reached Bette’s room she warned the blonde. “It’s best not to get her upset.”

    Bette heard Tina talk to someone behind the curtains. She was getting ready to give Tina a warm smile when the curtains opened and she saw the love of her life and her soon-to-be ex-wife standing next to each other.

    Chapter 4

    Emergency Room – While Tina’s Away

    Bette watched Tina leave her room and pull back the curtains to give her privacy. She closed her eyes as she laid on the gurney. The only sounds she was hearing in the room were the beeping of the cardiac monitor and the occasional scratching of the needles on paper on the EKC machine. To say that she was shocked to see Tina in the room with her would be an understatement. All she wanted to do was reach out and make sure she wasn’t dreaming, but the pain in her chest prevented her from doing so. At that point she wasn’t sure if the pain was from earlier or from seeing the blonde so close to her. Bette took a deep breath and decided it was the pain from earlier she had experienced. God, eight years and she still looked like the Hollywood executive she fell in love with, but what was she doing working in a hospital. A P.A.- that was how Dr. Martin had introduced Tina. She was now a physician assistant and why were they calling her “Christina”? Had she changed so much that she longer wanted to be called “Tina”. Did she want to forget the life she had when lived in Los Angeles…when she lived her? Bette felt her throat tighten and tried to hold her tears at bay.

    Sue watched as Bette closed her eyes, a tear rolling down her cheek. Bette’s eyebrows furrowed. Sue walked over to the brunette and placed a hand on her patient’s shoulder. “Do you feel any pain?”

    Bette heard the nurse make her way to her. She kept her eyes closed and shook her head in response to the nurse’s question.

    Bette thought back to the last time she saw Tina, begging James to be let in the CAC, the last glanced at her office windows where Tina knew she would be watching, the defeat in her shoulders when she walked back to her car and how she watched as the woman, the only woman she had ever loved drive away. She really would not have called the police, but Franklin was breathing down her neck with threats to call the police himself.

    1. Wonderful update. Interesting twists. First you make the people hate Andrea, then like her. Tina is not the only guilty one in this story. Bette showed her the big stick.

    2. ABG..is that an arterial blood thingy…. I had one of those done and it is bloody painful!! No wonder Bette is in hospital with chest pains.. I’d be stressed too with all this carry on around me! And (you only will know what that means) continue if you so wish…! ;0) xxK

    3. Thanks for the update. Great comments from everyone. I love yours justkeepswimming. AH, the journey we take with other souls all throughout our life. WE do repeat performances until we learn what was wrong about them enough to make the changes. ENjoying the story so please keep it coming.

    4. So does that mean that Tina’s been celibate over the years ince she left Bette? She’s maybe having as hard a time as Bette truly moving on. I feel sort of sorry for Andrea. Thanks for the post, tg. :)

    5. This story is getting really good. Second chances don’t happen all the time and in fact it’s hard to get the lost love again esp if the root of the break up is cheating. The fact that Tina cheated with a man made me think that there could be a deeper reason/s why Tina made a liaison with a man instead of another woman. Interesting story T please keep the chapters coming(-;

    6. I know cheating is wrong, but in remembering the show and Tina’s relationship with Oscar-who had a wife,(they were in B&T’s theraphy group) maybe he was just trying to help her and Bette have another baby after, the son they had just lost, I know still wrong-but trying to lessen the blow of my Tina, cheating and sleeping with a man.

    7. “I told you when we first started seeing each other that I would not be able to commit fully to you and you told me you were okay with that.” Wow…tough start for Andrea to have those be the conditions for dating/having a relationship with Bette. I’d be pretty bitchy too if I had to compete with an elevated memory. The “approach-avoidance” conflict of past loves – you remember all the good you had with someone better than you remember the challenges. And it’s why we end up going back to someone over and over…Now having said that, it seems as though Tina’s one mistake was the affair with Oscar. Were there a whole pile of other problems? Are they forgiveable? Will we find out about their past together as envisioned by you? If no heart attack was it anxiety that had Bette drop to the track? I like the metaphor of Bette having a weak heart due to the history of lost love, but I would like to see her healthy and out of the hospital. Okay, shutting up now. Thanks!

    8. Great update. It is becoming more clear with each post, especially this one. Wish Tina had not walked away but stuck around out the curtain to hear what Bette had said. Andrea is right this is their second chance. Thanks for posting. Agree with justkeepswimming.

    9. I guess “affair with Oscar” really ruined this Tina for me. Plus the fact she walked away so easily. Bette seems so pathetic. I like Andrea much more than Tina, but it looks like she is history by now.
