Holidays Are Coming AKA An Ocean Apart #7
Helena helped Dana through this difficult time: she became her main carer and was doing her best to nurse her back to good health. The doctor had been adamant that Dana was to take it easy and have complete bed rest after all she had been through a horrific ordeal. So Helena had decided that she would step up to the plate to look after Dana, she felt the strange but significant correlation there was between her, Dana and Alice.
Both women were in London on business…alone, and somehow this inevitable accident had brought them to one another. And Helena would not change that for a second, she wanted to be the best possible provider for Dana. As this was someone that her long-lost friend cared deeply for so she saw this as her duty to uphold their friendship.
In those silent moments where Helena would get lost in her own world, she felt numb and those incidents were her way of escaping the reality of her loneliness she felt. When she would think of her children she would feel disgusted with herself that she had deserted them. Just because she could not deal with one of her closest friends, her extended part of her family leaving her behind. This was selfish and she knew it because she had left them behind so they must feel they way she does about the situation. It tore her up inside, it was constantly biting away at her ability to show her love for people anymore. Instead she had slipped into this subconscious state of mind where she was no longer the Helena Peabody everybody thought they knew.
She would drown her sorrows by buying peoples love and this happened with a few women she had fought with in messy ordeals. She knew this as the only way to be the object of their affection and admiration, it was wrong she knew it in the pit of her stomach but she did not see any other way out of her routine ways.
She bellowed in self-pity and would constantly sit in the dark alone, trying to figure out how her life had come to this. In fact she never could draw up a conclusion as to why she was dead inside, but underlying beneath the surface of her skin she screamed to be loved and cherished.
This woman had the biggest heart there was and had all the love in the world to give, but people would take this for granted and be more interested in the financial side of Helena’s love. She often wondered what if she was not Helena Peabody the heiress to the Peabody Foundations but instead just simply Helena Peabody the woman from England. Who was popular for her wealth or her family’s wealth just a simple girl.
Helena realised that in fact she had achieved her own accomplishments in her own rights since she had departed from Los Angeles and that would be her own business. And there were the children at the camps loving her for her personality, wisdom, thoughtfulness, charisma and many other qualities that would come to light when in her presence.
They did not know she was the one who was funding the medical expenses and food etc, but she liked it that way because things were much simpler which she enjoyed. She was a different Helena to what other people may have known at some point. She was not a snob, simply just a loving British woman, who cared for people’s welfare when others did not.
It was true in a way she knew her heart had not been loved from a relationship that was something more than friendship; she couldn’t help but crave this but knew it was hard under the circumstances. But then she met Tyler, who was on a mission to save the world she was very endearing. The two soon found themselves becoming friends in the tight community of Nigeria; it wasn’t hard because there were only a few camps of people sacrificing themselves to help others. They would have to build shelter like the rest of the communities there. It was something different to what they were both used to back home.
Helena had already been in Nigeria for 2months when Tyler had arrived to come and join their team, it was a surprise to have such a fresh young face to approach situations that arose. Tyler had not long turned 20 when she had arrived, she may have been young but she was certainly wiser beyond her years this definitely caught Helena’s attention of the new temptress in town.
At first Helena saw Tyler only as a colleague and maybe possibly someone to share the benefits with initially, she also thought Tyler wasn’t exactly her type. As she was much younger than herself and although it did not create a problem in their work-based friendship Helena felt old. In fact a couple more years and she could in fact be the same age as Tyler’s mother.
Although there was an undeniable chemistry that filled the air between them, a sweet aroma carried with the wind as it drew them closer together. It was like two opposites in some ways drawn together like there was a magnet forcing them to be with one another. Helena was the sugar, her sweet smile melting away at Tyler’s heart when she would look at her the way she did. Tyler being the spice that Helena craved for something not completely different that she didn’t like, but for that something that complimented her personality.
Both women knew of the chemistry between one another but chose to ignore it for a while until one night Tyler couldn’t take it anymore. The pressure had been mounting and was not simplifying instead intensifying between them.
The group had retired for the night and all looked forward to a good nights rest to start it all over again in the morning. But Tyler had other ideas of unwinding and Helena was her target. She waited until everyone would be settled and crept out over her shelter; she stood for a few moments outside Helena’s door thoroughly contemplating whether or not she should knock. But eventually she swallowed hard and gulped down her fear; she knocked and waited for a reply. Helena answered the door in just a towel as she had just been bathing. Helena was shocked to see Tyler and instantly become worried something was wrong. After she let Tyler in she left her to get comfortable whilst she threw an outfit together then she made her way back to Tyler who was ready and waiting.
“Is there something wrong, I mean you seem upset”? Helena’s eyes beamed towards Tyler who was staring down at the floor, she felt herself waning to comfort her and tell her everything will be okay.
“I…I… just need to get something off my chest” Tyler’s eyes were piercing through the candle light that filled the room.
Helena sat down by her side and turned inwards so they were now facing each other. She wasn’t sure what Tyler was going to say but she was deeply concerned as she had never come over before now.
“Well the thing is we get along great, we have this connection we understand one another. But ever since I’ve met you I couldn’t help but feel attracted to you. I know you may not feel the same way but this has been heavy on my chest since I laid eyes on you. I can’t stop thinking about you; you make me laugh with the wisdom you behold. You make me think about places I only wish I could have shared with you. I am more than just attracted to your beauty; I think I think I’m in love with you.” Tyler spoke through shallow breaths.
