How could you forget us?–The Christmas story
First there is Umoja or Unity: Unity for family and community,
Second is Kujichagulia or Self-determination: This means you speak for yourself and determine what you will be.
Third is Ujima this means Collective Work and Responsibility: This means you work together as a community to solve problems
Forth is Ujamaa or Cooperative Economics: This means the community will build stores and businesses and support them together.
Next is Nia or Purpose: This is to build the community together to bring to greatness to the community.
Then comes Kuumba or Creativity: This means we should make the community more beautiful than how we found it.
And finally there is Imani or Faith: This means we will have faith is our community and believe is a positive outcome. "
“Those are great principles to have Angelica, you should always remember your roots and your community” Pam added in support.
“Mama, can we do Kwanzaa this year?”
Tina looked at Tasha and Pam at a loss. Pam lifted her hands and shrugged her shoulders indicating she didn’t know. Tasha volunteered, “It’s easy. I’ll help you little Angie and we’ll have a big party at the end.”
Jumping up and down Angelica cheered, “Yeah!!!”
Alice chimed in, “Our Christmas was pretty Americanized but my Polish grandmother would make pierniki or honey bread. Hmmm yummy. Now that was love. She showed us how to make pajaki which were homemade decorations. Sort of like your homemade ornaments.” Kissing Angelica on the each cheek and spinning her around, “Now that’s even more love.”
After chatting and comparing notes about childhood memories and traditions, Papi, Alice and Tasha collected their cookies and Angelica-ornament, hugged and kissed Tina, Angelica and Pam goodbye.
Alice warned, “Get to bed early Angelica. You don’t want Santa catching you up tonight.”
“Can’t I stay up and see him?”
“No if you are up he will pass by the house. So you need to get to bed early.” Tina warned her extremely enthusiastic and overly excited daughter.
As they left Alice exclaimed, “Good night every one, Merry Christmas!”
Tasha added, “Happy Kwanzaa!”
Papi shouted, “Feliz Navidad!”
“Sinifisela Ukhisimusi Omuhle!” responded Pam.
As they left Shane and Jenny bounced in, “You guys are leaving? We just wanted to give Angelica her presents.”

Squirl that was so sweet, we had a big gathering for breakfast this morning where my four kids had their friends over, all grown, late teen and early twentys, anyway we were talking diversity and all the different life styles, it was like the blessing of Christmas(as we celebrate). Many thanks for your heart warming story. Md
Merry Christmas to you your family and the readers and visitors of this site.
What a lovely chapter to let Angelica know all the different ways people and thier culture celebrate the same blessed event, in different ways, but all coming back to the same thing, the birth of bby jesus. Since you dedicated this chapter to your partner and family, may I say that it is a beautiful way to celebrate and show your love and care for them. I am aserious TiBette=er at heart so you know who I want to see together. Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Awesome!Very heartwarming. :D
S that was a very moving chapter of how all the women celebrated xmas and telling that to Angie. And loved how you had ended it with Helena texting Bette, perfect. Feliz Navidad S!!
hi Squirl…this chapter is educational because you described different cultures and ways they celebrate holiday season…way to go…and since christmas is coming…I will let Bette to feel happy from Helena’s text….But dont let Bette get of the hook so easily…she will never learn……Merry Christmas to you and your family….:)
In honor of the holiday I shall withhold all snark about she who I will not name! Angelica was so funny in this..I wanna have Kwanzaa! I wanna have Hannukah! I wanna go to New York! I wanna go to church! I wanna go to…bed… I can only imagine how spoiled miss Angie is at Christmas!!! And, squirl, you have given my grieving heart hope for a positive outcome here…thank you!!!!
Great stuff! It’s wonderful to see the diversity in your story. I felt bad for Helena. Bette needs to do alot of reflecting and soul searching to know what she wants and go for it. A beautiful dedication to your lovely partner and children. Merry Christmas!
Very educational and inspiring story. Maybe, our ladies will learn the real meaning of the Holiday Season? It’s not about the material things just the things that money CAN’T buy.
What an adorbale chapter, angelica is so cute, love the explainations of how everyone clebrates the holidays!! Merry Christmas
awe that was a sweet christmas story…you know that i’m a belena for life…but don’t let b off the hook that easy…she’s gotta “earn” h back..
Great chapter, I loved the way they all shared their X-mas stories with little Boo. I hope Bette & Helena can work things out together andplease keep Da Queena as far away from Bette as you can, thanks. Merry Christmas to you and your family
wow, Angelica sure will have a very interesting life growing up with the women in her life and their culture. Thank you for this wonderful chapter. Have a Merry Christmas to you and you loved ones. :)
I have to say reading this story has been interesting but I am heart to heart TiBetter. When Bette is declaring love for Helena or Tina is playing house with Pam, I feel like the other half is missing. It is painful for me but I do love the ups and downs of this story. I am not sure what will happen in the story but I can not believe that Bette was just responding to a primal urge with Tina. If so she needs to do some serious counseling before Helena takes her back. Bette had the responsibility of turning Tina down but she did not and just when Tina was starting to except they were really over. Does Bette really want it to be over? Only you the writer knows. Thanks for your story
bit of angst, bit of poignancy, bit of hope, lots of love…thank god we have christmas to remind us what is REALLY important…but does this mean bette will leave the temptations of LA (i.e. Tina) and move to New York? sad for Ange if she does…really liking the Pam/Tina thing…pps…oh yeah, i don’t want helena letting bette off the hook too easily…bette needs to sort her shit…
A very sweet story! You managed to cover a lot of ground here with the descriptions of the different cultural and religious celebrations of the season as well as advancing the story! I continue to be blown away by how you are “working” this story! I have to go back and comment on your prior trio. Merry Christmas to you and your family! :-)
Hello Squirl, this one fills my heart with Hope that there is hope… if for nothing else then for Bette to prove that she is a good mother, her interaction with Boo was so precious, and that scene with Helena just shows how much this has really affected her, it might not seem like it but she is maturing, realizing just how much she has hurt her and how much she really does love her… sometimes the road to happiness is long and narrow… just never get off the path… and you will get there. You are simply amazing. Sincerely, JC (PS – you have a blessed Christmas and a Merry New Years…)
I am happy to see that Helena might be willing to let Bette have a chance. Bette needs to find out what makes her destruct anything good in her life. I have to admit I tend to be a Bette girl and sometimes want to smack the rest of them since no one else is given the hard lesson of how wrong they were. I honestly have to say in this story I would rather have Bette and Helena together which is completely out of character for me as I am a TiBetter.
It’s a Christmas Miracle for Bette! Happy Holidays!
