I Fell In Love With A Straight Girl Chp 7

Small arms held me as I slept in a fluffy pink bed. This would be the first time in three years that I would be in a bed that was in a private home, wrapped in the cotton blankets, and comfort of my best friend. I was safe from the rest of the world.
Tomorrow would be the day after Christmas, tomorrow would be a better day. I chanted in my mind, also as if it was a pray, a plead to some type of God to send my mother back to me. Then we could live in a house like Alice’s. Then everything would be okay, just like she promised. I let out a sad, yet hopeful sigh and let sleep consume me.
The door bell rang around 7 am, I rolled out of bed and ran down the stairs, eager to see my mother, to feel her skinny, yet comforting arms around mine.
“It came true my wish came true”  I thought to myself as I bolted down the stairs.
But instead of seeing my mother I saw two policemen standing in the kitchen, talking to Alice’s mother.
“We’re really sorry to have to tell you this so close to Christmas Ma’am.”
“I understand, you’re just doing your jobs, thank you for coming out.” Alice’s mom whispered. She led the cops to the door, as she shut it, she saw me standing on the stairs.
“Oh Shane, I didn’t see you there.” She said as she sat next to me on the stairs. I looked into her tearful eyes, the same look my mother always had. Within these eyes I could see the fear and worry. The questions of what to do next exploding in her mind.
    “Shane,” she started.
“She’s not coming back, is she?” I said before she was able to finish. Her tears fell before mine, and we held each other on the stairs, as the Christmas lights filled the house with an ironic joy.

“Shane, Shane wake up it’s okay, it’s okay Shane.”  The scene of Alice’s mom holding my 10 year old self on the stairs crumbled, and I awoke to a frighten Tina shaking me.
I grasped for breath, my body couldn’t stop shaking. Tina sat me up and rubbed my back, finally I caught my breath, and she pulled me into a tight hug.
