I Will Follow You Into The Dark – Chapter Two

    Chapter Two

The days following on that kiss, Fiona completely ignores Bette. Bette doesn’t want to make a fool of herself and sticks to hanging around with Billy. She is confused about what happened. One part of her wants to run after Fiona all the time and adores her, the other part blames Fiona and cannot stand the arrogance of the girl. What on earth makes her think Bette is gay? Bette is not gay! Bette is Billy’s girlfriend, for five years.
They always laugh about it: Bette and Billy. If you repeat it really founds, the funniest things come out. Betnbilly, Bebilly, Be-n-billy…
For weeks, Fiona doesn’t talk to Bette. Fine. That way, Bette can sort it all out. She can make a decision: Billy or Fiona? She would feel lost without Billy, Billy gives her certainty. He is a nice guy, a good guy. He is funny, he is strong, he protects her and he is there for her. Fiona is a weird, arrogant girl that thinks she can kiss Bette and get away with it. But she is stunningly beautiful, amazingly smart, mysterious, fascinating. Every fibre in Bettes body screams ‘Fiona! Go for Fiona!’

But she goes for Billy anyway. Billy can give her all she needs. She is self-confident and sure, she loves Billy and only him. Her life is on the rails again, everything is clear. She misses conversations with Fiona, but tries not to think about the girl.

Until that one night, that one party Randy is throwing. He invites everyone that is cool. Bette is considered cool because she’s Billy’s girlfriend, she goes everywhere Billy goes. Sometimes she feels like she’s an appendix of him. She is not Bette Porter, art student, she is Billy’s Girl. She wants to be more than that, but what can she do? If she goes with Fiona just for that, it’s not a good reason. And then again, if she does that, she’ll be The Dyke or something. Not a title she is waiting for either.

But they are both invited to the party, having a good time apart. Than there’s this slow Bette dances with Billy. Fiona shows up and takes over from Billy without a word. Billy is so surprised he doesn’t protest.
