    If I Fall: Chapter 11

Alice had a million thoughts racing through her head as she walked away from the party.  Foremost was the one about why she actually listened to Shane’s advice in the first place and decided to traipse across the beach after Dana. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to talk to her, but after only one drink she wasn’t sure just how much her nerves would let her say. And while finding the right words was never really a problem for Alice, every encounter with Dana lately was too crucial to not think about beforehand. So Alice tried to come up with something, anything that would help things lessen the awkwardness between them, hoping that it would allow her to break through the delicate walls they had each constructed around themselves.

After all this time and all the hurt that they put each other through, they had become virtual strangers to a degree. And while Alice was always able to read Dana like a book, she wasn’t sure if that still rang true. She never thought that Dana was as simple as other people interpreted her to be, but she also knew that Dana’s mind never really worked overtime like it seemed to be doing now. In their few conversations as of late, the athlete had seemed even more scattered and tentative than Alice had ever remembered her being, and she seemed to grow more conflicted and unsure of what she wanted from one second to the next.

Although, it wasn’t as if Alice couldn’t recognize the subtle changes within herself lately either. She knew that she was different than before, and that was probably what kept Dana at arms length. Ever since the breakup Alice’s trust and confidence in herself and others were badly shaken. Sure she had been dumped before. Hell, she could write a book on all the shit she went through courtesy of Gabby Deveaux. But none of those people before had mattered much to Alice until Dana came along. Dana knew her almost as well as she knew herself, so the writer never gave a second thought to trusting the athlete explicitly, or making herself entirely vulnerable to her. After all, that’s what you do with the person you love, right? At least that was what Alice thought. She always hoped to someday find someone who would love her unconditionally and accept all of her flaws and insecurities, regardless of how ugly they could be. And who better to fill that position than her best friend? So when Dana ran away, leaving her to pick up the pieces on her own, Alice had never felt so betrayed or broken in all her life.

    1. I’m sorry, I can’t help it! I want danish together and if that means tainting Jules so you can no longer write him into this then yay! :P My plan is working mwahaha. As for that needy comment, uh em, no you don’t *shifts eyes nervously from side to side* I’m perfectly fine without an update from you. Do you buy that? This is Bradshaw saying you posted an awesome chapter once again and I’m mega jealous of your talent, over and out xx

    2. Another great update! It was awesome, before, but I liked the additions too. Unlike your other readers I’m not quite ready for them to get back together. I don’t want Dana to suffer, but she has to be completely sure before she even gives a hint that she’s still interested in Alice. I’m sure Shane will figure it out – if she hasn’t already. :-) It’s so funny that De_Leish_ous is still calling Jules “him”. rofl I can’t wait for your next update.Yes, I got a little kick out of calling you busy. You left before noon? It’s official, I’m jealous. lol You’re right – Go Chargers! (But I sorta like the Ravens too.) Down with the Pats! lolThanks again for the update and the preview.

    3. Aww, poor Dana. Sometimes I wish she’d quit with all the being scared and hiding her feelings crap, but this time she’s doing it for Alice’s sake, and I can’t help hurting for her a little bit. That’s such a tough situation to be in, and her guilt’s understandable, which somehow makes it even more sad. There was a lot of groundwork for a Danish romantic reconciliation in this update, and everything made complete sense in the context of both the storyline and the characters’ personalities. So yay. Oh, and as to the livejournal thing…I had a sneaking suspicion it was you just by the writing style, but I didn’t want to say that in case I was wrong because I’d look either insane or idiotic. But yay, I was right! Okay, I’ll stop babbling your life away now…love this story more every time you post!

    4. Are you serious? How can a non-argument between these two be dissapointing? This chapter was more I than I exepcted! So will we have a slighlty drunk Alice (and Dana) in the next chapter. :)

    5. so cute. what the heck is dana gonna do? i really liked the line “Dana’s heart seemed to pound in her chest, making sure she knew it was still beating just for Alice. ” how poetic! post soon.

    6. Great update just wish it was 20 pages longer. My heart is breaking for Dana a little bit, poor thing. Granted she did it to herself. Love the intensity you are building and can’t wait to see what happens.
